Well, the first week in April, it just so happens that I will be 'forced' to go to a conference in what appears to be a very lovely town....

...for a treat.... I thought I would tag on a 'break' for me of a few days....

Those that are familiar with the area, I will be staying at the Marriott LaJolla for the conference...which does not appear to be in the town itself..... so....since I won't have a car.... I thought of moving to a more 'affordable' hotel in town for a few days....

Right now here (I am from CANADA.......yes...yes..yes... an Italian living in French Quebec!) we are having the coldest weeks of the year... so I am picturing myself taking long walks on a beach.... and since I noticed that there are a few beach areas in LaJolla..... and since I will only be there for a few days..... would like to hit the 'good' safe spots rather than search for them..... (because I will be with me, myself, and I and hopefully a very good book).....

If anyone here is familiar with the area and can help avoid me 'reinventing the wheel', I would certainly appreciate it.

Since I have not used either one yet, any major difference in services between the Holiday Inn and the Travelodge chains?

Thanks.

Oh, that is very close to where I live - about 30 minutes away. LaJolla is beautiful, and there is lots to look at. There is a nice acquarium - Steven Birch, I think, nearby, and of course LaJolla Cove and tidal pools - 10 minutes from the hotel.

Thanks Believer...

Hum.... which hotel are you referring to.... I named three!

By the way.... if you would interested in 'hooking up' for a 'coffee' or something in that area, let me know.... but do understand if you would prefer keeping the 'undercover' identity.... and limit contact to the Board.....

I would stay away from the Travelodge chain. they tend to be noisy, and usually not in a good area of town. Even Holiday Inn can be questionable if your not careful.

the area you are staying at - La Jolla - is actually a lovely beach area. I grew up in San Diego and spent many summers poking around in the tide pools at the La Jolla cove, as Believer mentions above.

there is an area called "Hotel circle" which has a lot of resonably priced hotels and restaurants, and it is "technically" close to the beach, but surrounded by big busy freeways. I just stayed at a Hotel in the hotel circle area a couple of months ago, and there is no way I would have walked to the beach from there, so be careful.

Mission bay is a nice area as well, with several reasonable priced hotels.

You would also enjoy walking around the Historic Old Town area of San Diego. Quaint shops, good Mexican food, historic buildings.

All three are 10 minutes from beach - everything here is.

Yep, let's get together.

What kind of stuff do you like? There is also the Wild Animal Park, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Tijuana, Mexico, Old Town, downtown San Diego - all 10 minutes from the hotel.

WOF,

Thanks for the info. How far away is San Diego from La Jolla? I guess there must be buses between the two..... but I will have to see... I only have 2 free days.....and I won't have a car.....

Hotel-wise.... yes....both the Holiday Inn and the Travelodge 'claim' to be in walking distance to the beach area....it's one of the reasons I was considering them...that and the fact that they are affordable... maybe I should reconsider and just stay on at the MARRIOTT and take a taxi to the beach area for the day?

I think I can afford to splurge.....a few bucks on taxis....

Believer,

I would think you mean '10 minutes' by car, right?

Well....then....let's....

We can be more specific later on...but for now.... please note that the conference dates are April 2nd to 5th..... staying at the MARRIOTT, so will be busy during the day, and probably the evening of the 2nd for 'reception' duties... but I think I would be OK for the evenings from the 4th on.... than for the 6th and 7th.... I am totally FREE..... so....it would depend on your schedule..... "What stuff do you like?" ....geesh... getting to meet you will be my 'treat'.....

P.S.

Believer,

quote:----------------------------------------------------
but I think I would be OK for the evenings from the 4th on.... than for the 6th and 7th.... I am totally FREE
----------------------------------------------------------

actually if I only expect to be busy on the evening of the 2nd...... it should be .........from the 3rd on..... (rather than the 4th)......

I am really hoping that you can find a convenient time to fit me in......

.....I imagine it will be 'kind' of strange at first.... I always wondered how things are with some of these 'MB get-togethers' I sometimes read about..... it will be like meeting 'family' that you don't even know what they look like...at first!

For Believer:

Wondered if it would not be better to take our exchanges re details, etc. out of the GQII.... and more importantly the 'sea' of threads pertaining more to the mission of the MB board

so, here's my MB email: mblunamare@yahoo.ca

Well the FOW is from San Diego and I have had to travel there for business a couple of times since D-day and I find myself always looking over my shoulder. I just know if I ever ran into her that I would just have to sock her in the nose!

Hi WhoMe,

I see.....that San Diego (even just the name) is a major trigger for you.... I guess you won't be vacationing there anytime soon, wouldn't want you ending up in jail!

Take care.

.....bumping for Believer....

lunamare,

It is actually worse for FWH. I asked him if he wanted to come along on my last business trip to San Diego. He waffled for awhile and then declined. He has no pleasant memories of OW or his A. He knew from almost the very beginning that he had really made a mistake. As soon as their butts got off the sheets the first time, she turned into a jealous, demanding shrew.

He tried over and over to end the A while she used every trick in the book, mainly threats of exposing to me, to keep him in the A. Towards the end, the only reason he saw her at all was that she kept buying plane tickets and flying across the country to "surprise" him at his office.

I think he fears that he would physically harm her or just plain kill her if he had the opportunity.

I always thought San Diego was a lovely city. I guess it still is, but I sure am glad it is nearly 3000 miles away. Recovery, as tough as it has been, would have been much more difficult for me if I had to wonder constantly if I might run into (or over) OW.

Hi WhoMe:

...affairs have a way of 'tarnishing' memories and places!

I am glad you and your S were able to 'work it' out....

....and your signature says it best: ..... room for improvement....exceptionally an 'always' in this case might apply....

...bumping post below from a few days ago for Believer...don't think she saw it!

Believer,

Had a few other questions about the area, but don't think it would be of interest to the Board...

Would you be willing to contact me at mblunamare@yahoo.ca and let me know where I could email you directly?
