Any Pug-lovers out there????

I don't have a dog right now and have never handled a pug -- but if you need dog advice, look for a TV show called *The Dog Whisperer.* It's been running the National Geographic Channel, if you have that. The guy is amazing and deals with every type of dog. Try doing a Google search for it.

good luck

Well, you could still do a Google search on "The Dog Whisperer" - I'll bet there's a good website on what he does.

I would suggest that you find a good reputable breeder and have them mentor you.

First you can visit dog shows and talk to the breeders and handlers there. After they have shown their dogs they are usually more than willing to answer questions. Once you find a breeder get your puppy and have your breeder mentor you. Also, you can see if there is an online forum about pugs. I own a Newfoundland and belong to a website of other Newfie owners and we talk about our dogs.

Curious why you picked a pug? Do you already own one? I understand the show scene is a grueling one, but can also be vey rewarding.

Best of luck to you!!

LostintheCity,

just for your info...............I'm in Europe. The "rules" are a little different here, if you get what I mean. Dog shows are not as professional as in the US and Canada. Well, at least not here in Germany.

I'm actually breed dogs myself but I was never all that much into showing.............but this has obviously changed as you can see. I've been to a few shows with my pug and there are just some things that I realize that I could do alot better if I had the knowledge.

The Show scene over here is NOT open for alot of questions.............mostly NOT if you have been seen in the ring and have been somewhat successfull.

Everybody seems to do their own thing.

You're curious "WHY" I picked a Pug???

Well, if you ever had one, you'd know!!! *giggle* I think it was Winston Churchhill that once said: Life without a pug is possible, but useless!

take care

Maybe I should get one then!!!! I love dogs!!!

Since you have been in the show ring then maybe it's just a matter of practicing your technique. As you know, the handler should be invisible to the dog that is being shown, but should also compliment the dog in the way you dress and move.

Maybe look for an online forum about showing dogs?

Good luck to you!

Here are regional breed clubs.
If there's one within driving distance, I highly recommend you join. You'll learn SO much about showing and the breed. Every dog club I've known has been willing to educate new members and mentor them a bit. Word of warning, however. People who are really "into" their breed can be rather...quirky. Ever seen "Best in Show"? It wasn't far off from reality. And they'll definitely let you know if they don't approve of something you're doing with your dog.

I'm in Europe!!!!!! and this would definately mean "TOO" much driving!!!!

Oops! That's what I get for not paying attention!!! Yep, I went to some Schutzhund competitions over there. That's where I fell in love with German breeds. I'm also assuming you want to show in conformation and not Schutzhund.

Try the Pugdogs-L list. If it's half as useful as Doberworld-L, you'll learn a lot.
