Hi. My FWH and I have been in Marriage Counseling for about one month. The counselor that we have is someone that I have seen before (When I tried to go to counseling on my own in an attempt to understand the problems in our marriage- never realized it was someone else). My H suggested that we go to her since I already knew her. She is really good and happens to specialize in infidelity. However, now my H feels that the sessions are all about me and that the counselor is biased. I don't agree. She focuses on us talking to one another and we switch turns each session. His comments about bias arise from a session where he left the room before I did. Seeing my tears the counselor reminded me that I could always call her. My H overheard and sees this as her being biased. What do you guys think? Any ideas? Oddly enough, he doesn't want to switch counsleors! Is this guilt or am I missing something?

It is still early in your recovery, but is it possible that his comment was because he doesn't want to make changes or take responsibility. If he is crittical of the counsilor it would probably be a good idea to find another one that he could follow I think. I'm no expert though.

Bring up the bias at the next session and let the counselor address it and reassure him that she will act in the best interest of all concerned....including the marriage. You can't give him a connection with her....only she can do that.

Thank you both. He is definitely willing to make changes. I must admit that and he does claim full responsibility for his actions. We have a session tomorrow night. I will bring up the bias and let the counselor address it. I will write back to let you both know how it goes. Thanks again!
