So how many folks feel that it's OK for a W to be nasty and short-fused one week each month due to raging hormones/PMS?
Does every women get nuts one week before their period or just mine?
I've learned to keep quiet and stay away as much as possible that week and things have worked out..
Why don't men get the same excuse ?
Thanks, PM

why or how would it ever be OK to be nasty....
people can still be in control... the proof is in the pudding...
women DON'T rage at their bosses and co-workers and then get slip signed by their docs..
please excuse any and all nasty behavior from your female employee...she has PMS and can not be held accountable for her actions ....

huh? Where is it written that any woman is entitled to act like a BEAST when she has PMS?

Because they don't have to go through pregnancy and labor. If you want to be married to a man....well go watch "Brokeback Mountain", but otherwise....you're stuck with us "flawed" hormonal witches.

No need to get defensive or show your homophobic side...
I was asking a legitimate question which you didn't answer.
Do you have one bad week per month or not and if so, how bad is it?
How do you treat your H??

Yes, I used to get it very badly. I could not stand being that way to everyone (work and all). I went to the doctor and got myself on medication.
PMS is NOT pleasant! Having PMS is NO reason to mistreat anyone, IMO.

What kind of meds? My W is already on ADs and also takes sleeping pills..
There's medication for PMS? For the cramps, the bad mood, or both?
thanks.

Well actually, I don't know if there are any studies or whatnot, but I'd swear there ARE regular cycles of dh being excessively moody.
Nevertheless, while pain, discomfort, and unaccounted for hormonal tides are difficult, I'd kindly recommend you let your W that how she handles these problems are becoming very difficult for you. Perhaps she can find another outlet, or maybe even a little excedrin.

In my experience, women with PMS punish themselves more than anyone else.
I always get a little grumpy with others, but inside, the rage is all against me.
I even attempted suicide once, and this was put down to PMS by my doctor. That's really how bad it can make women feel.

ah shucks cracken.....I was trying to make you laugh!! yikes! Well it's not the first time this two dimensional medium has failed to communicate my irreverent humor....sigh.
So let me give you a serious answer instead....I don't get mean, I get kind of emotional though. I cry. Yeah....it's really not pretty....but I guess it's better than being ugly. The truth is....until I figure out that it's "hormonal" I don't realize that I'm acting weird. It really helps that H is "tuned in" and he'll try to gently remind me that I'm "not myself".
PMS is never a good excuse for abuse....or real nastiness...but it is a time when women tend to be "testy" and irritable. It's not personal....it's just hormones....ooops I made another joke.

There is medication for the cramps. That was not my problem; however, so, I don't know specifically.
First, I was on the pill. That helped immensely with the moodiness, crying, foul mood. For other health reasons, I had to go off the pill after being on it for so long. I switched to Paxil CR (AD) and it has helped soooooooo much.
There are alternatives.

Yes, I have a one bad week a month. It happens to be this week, so watch your mouth buddy.
I don't get nasty but, boy, do things irritate me. I've made a pact myself to never, never make life changing decisions during PMS.
I'm also 51 so I've had 30 something years of crippling PMS and it's all nearly over. WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO.

McCracken, I get it too. It's like..something irritating happens, like one of the kids does something, I get irate and I can actually feel the irritation get bigger and bigger. Then I realize it and say to myself my period must be real soon. It actually takes it to another level. When I got it the first time, I was on vacation with my family and friends. My olders sisters were picking on me as usual, but I basically had like a total meltdown, unlike ever before. The next day I got it. My father, who is an OBGYN told me that I would feel that way every month. Great! It's definitely something we can control, but we are a wee bit easier to agitate. And it does help if we realize that that is the reason for our unhappiness not the actual current event. Sorry to ramble, maybe it will help.

Yes, Michele, you've described it exactly. I also get really, really bloated and feel it would be relieved if someone stuck a pin in me. My jaw clenches too, completely beyond my control.
When my DD was still living at home, the double dose of PMSing females was nearly enough to make my son and H want to leave home. She gets REALLY nasty.
I've also found that finally giving up cigarettes has helped my PMS this month. My cigarette consumption would double during PMS week.

PMS is very real and is treatable. There is one type of birth control pills that helps with the symptoms.
Taking calcium, magensium and zinc helps if it is taken regularly.
There is a medicine that the doctor can prescribe that will help with the cramps- It is an old medicine that starts with P - someone help me on this. I haven't had any in a while. It helped so very much.

Hi McCracken! So how many folks feel that it's OK for a W to be nasty and short-fused one week each month due to raging hormones/PMS? Nasty? Nope, not OK. Short-fused? Well, I'm not sure that can be helped - I find my own fuse dramatically shorter during the few day before my period. What I *can* do is minimize the risk of it being lit and work on controlling damage if it is. So can my family.... Does every women get nuts one week before their period or just mine? If it's not okay for her to be nasty, then it's probably not okay for you to call a medically verifiable, debilitating condition "nuts." Having PMS validated by one's spouse is immeasurably helpful in managing it. Feeling guilty about it or judged for it makes it worse. I've learned to keep quiet and stay away as much as possible that week and things have worked out.. LOL, sounds much like my H! Why don't men get the same excuse ? I'd gladly trade! Seriously, I have found my own PMS to be really, really bad this past year. I've been suicidal, even when I was on anti-depressants. I walked out on my family and considered checking myself into the psych ward. Going back onto birth control pills has really, really helped me. It's still there, but the mood swings or the loss of perspective are not as strong. Blessings to you and your wife, G

I lOVE this thread.. .Thanks ladies.. big help.. basically. I'll do what I've been doing AND recommend the calcium, magensium and zinc, and very softly at that.
Where else could I get a same day response to such a question? From REAL people and not medical mumbo jumbo on some website pushing the latest meds...
MB rocks!!

I get irritable and feel quite depressed for about 3 days before my period is due. Then it starts and I breathe a sigh of relief because it validates my mood. 3-4 days for me. YUK
