What do you guys think?

Should I spend upwards of $15K 2 import a late 1980's VW Synchro Tristar double cab Transporter pickup and have it modified 2 US standards?

Or:

Spend about that much 2 restore my 1960 VW SingleCab Transporter 4x2 and still not be able 2 cruise at more than about 62mph?

Either truck would be very cool and attract a lot of attention (and purchase offers).

This is important MB material!

Believer and non-believer opinions welcome!

uhhhh....I guess I would go for a '67 GTO or a '69 Camaro or a '70 Charger myself and split the "age difference" of the VW's for something with some guts! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Well, if it's definitely down to those two I guess my advice would be to pick the one YOU would want to have for your own if you had to buy one or the other. You know them both and you know their features, so "add 'em up and pick the one you would want the most."

Kinda like picking a wife, isn't it???? <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

I know I'm going to regret trying to throw some humor into this!

My VW (car - I had a camper van, also) was bright smiley faced yellow Pep.

I loved it because *I* could repair it all by myself.....

And it tweeted and chirruped when I accelerated. I adored that car.

So how is it that you turned your back upon the Christ of Scripture for this construct of mental gymnastics? Something must have happened in your life where you were hurt by, or not helped by, those who professed belief in Christ when you needed their help.

Now that is the first caring, Christian thing you have said to me.

Thank you for that...it gives me hope and re-opens my mind to you.

I don't agree with all the "scriptural" teachings, but they were not written by Jesus so I feel I can disagree with them.

I know the language all right, because I love God, and I love Jesus so the language is kind of a part of me...as are they.

No I was never hurt by a Christian (maybe a fake one), but it hurts me very much to see my loving God used to invoke fear. This hurts me...a great deal.

You give such good marital advice and you are such a strong, male advocate of marriage...and very good for those who are losing their strength to stay the course...so I really do like you, quite a bit actually so I will keep trying to understand you and your religious views but I won't ever be in the same class with your fundalmentalists beliefs.

And that is what they are FH, and you know it...so I guess you can put me in the class of "Liberal Christian" for that is what I guess I am. Or you can put me in any class you want, for that matter...it really doesn't matter.

As for the "mental gymnastics"...well that's just the way I am wired.

But believe me, Jesus does know me and he loves me just fine the way I am.

edited for poor spelling...again.

I loved my van. I had it when Z was a baby. The only thing I didn't like about it was the back seat being so far back.....that boy would lob is nippy (pacifier) across the van, and I'd never find it again!

It was funny, I would crank up the music on the van and Z would head bang in his carseat....we were a bunch of hippy looking people then!

Pep:

My singlecab has the reserve lever. It always runs out of gas when I'm getting on the freeway right in front of an 18-wheeler!

...and as you know, it takes about 4 seconds for the fuel pump 2 suck the gas through the lines and get the engine running again!...

FH:

People in their 200+HP detroit irons don't realize that old VWs are racing all the time. When you're sitting in the front of one of them old transporters with nothing between you and your maker (for the religious among us) but a thin metal skin and some glass a few inches in front of you... ...well, it's pretty exciting driving one of those any time!

Ya, Pep, sometimes I scare myself too.

One of the byproducts of this affair was to jettison the CA baggage and take a stand on important issues.

Most people prefer the "get along to get along approach" though.

Now if you'd only known me back in college! Then again, I thought most women were "targets of opportunity" before I grew up enough to know they were gifts from God!!!

I still have "visions" of Twyla and Leilani in grass skirts!!

How's that for "scary visions!!?? <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Of course they are "fundamental," I don't think I've ever lead anyone to believe otherwise. But "liberal" or "fundamental" the issue still remains the Biblical Jesus and not some "construct of someone's imagination." The "liberal" or "fundamental" part has to do with other things than who Jesus Christ is and gets more into Theology, etc.

So, it's either this which is easiest because I have the truck, though this isn't how mine looks, as Pep will testify - it even has the lei still hanging on the mirror!:

Or something along these lines:

Well they both look a little "wierd" to me...but I vote for the second one.

Someone just told me today that "wierd is relative" so don't take too much offense 2long.

I like pickups or Harley's myself...but then I don't live in Southern CA and watch planets either. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

2long,
I can't believe you would ever want to leave this.
Maybe cut back, but leave?

I think sometimes about all the pain in the world. I hope we can ease that here, even if only a little bit.
