2long the singlecab is so cool. It's got a warmth to it that just isn't there with the other. But CANVAS? Blah. Maybe if you lived in California...

The other is super cool too. With these we're at a level of coolness where it really doesn't matter.

Hard call. What do you drive to work? Assuming you drive...

Trix:

My dad had a '65 Squarebutt that I used 2 drive a lot. Loved that car, and it did pretty well on the back roads of Joshua Tree, 2. Always wanted one, but when I got in2 buses, they just didn't seem 2 have enough room.

"So, what's wrong with silver cars (from someone looking at getting a new, silver, car)?"

They look like they need paint! Ac2ally, it may be more a jealosy thing. Many of my VW buses needed paint, but they weren't shiny when they did!

"I drove back and forth across country several more times in that bus, but without the cat, replaced the engine once, and nursed that car along for years... until someone I knew vaguely "borrowed" it without asking, drove it until the engine blew up, and left it out on the side of the hwy."

I'm impressed! I've literally lost count of how many times I've rebuilt my wind-cooled VW engines - way more than 30.

"I was into Jim Morrison, myself..."

Ah, Saint James! Soft Parade was my favorite!:

"The *MONK* *BOUGHT* *LUNCH*!!"

gc: Yeah, the canvas "tilts" are way expensive, 2. I have the remains of a vinyl one from Brazil that's flush with the cab and lasted quite a number of years before the stitching started 2 fail.

These days I drive either the single cab (when it's warm and dry - the wipers don't work and water gets in around the windshield and drips on my clutch foot) or my 2001 Eurovan weekender. That's cool, 2, because it has all the bennies of the old buses, plus it's FAST and POWERFUL - things I haven't experienced in my own cars in - well, ever!

At one time, at our previous house, I had 8 VW splittie buses, and only 2 of them ran!

I've owned several splitties, never had a bay window (aka bubble window or breadloaf), and one brick (1980 Vanagon Westfalia). I had a 93 Eurovan, but it was an electrical nightmare, so I traded it in on the '01, which has been great. Wish it was a stick, though... and a diesel... and 4x4...

But I'm weird, that way! I still play in the dirt a lot.

There was a time when the squareback held everything I owned and a dog....just fine.

But a van would have been more roomy. It seemed like I heard many a story back then of VW vans blowing their engines trying to drive over the Rockies.

I kept an '84 Toyota Van for a long time. That was great to drive cross country in along with my 3 young kids. (I grew up near San Francisco, so I made many a trip back there to visit family. I still have a sister out there in No. Cal)

Jim Morrison - also yummy, though (may he rest in peace) dead.

My sister has one of the new convertable bugs, and sorry, but they just aren't the SAME, are they? It's cute, okay, but... well, I'm just a big-ol' throwback to the past, myself... don't even get me started on what I watch on TV (when I do watch) or the movies I buy... my favorite car is a '61 Jag E-Series... you'd swear I was born in the 1940's... but unlike some who are writing on this thread, , I was born in the '50's... I should have been born years before...

But I digress.........

Carry on with your VW convo... never mind me... over here drooling on my Singers and Songwriter's CD (Jim Croce, Linda Ronstadt, Arlo Guthrie... sigh)...

They aren't NewBII...when I had both my VWs it was like I belonged to an extended family. Others in theirs would pass and nod or wave....with the new bugs, it's stare straight ahead and keep your hands on the wheel...not even a smile. I was always happy driving my bug. ALWAYS.

There is one new VW here that is too cute for color TV, tho....It's painted to look like Shamu....complete with a tail "fin". Love that Bug.

Well, hopefully I'll redeem myself a little by presenting you with this gift:

[color:"red"] Here's what happened the year you were born:[/color]

Harry Truman is president of the US

Treaty signed by US, Canada and other countries establishes the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)

German Federal Republic (West Germany) is established

A communist government is established in mainland China

John Belushi, Erik Estrada, and Bruce Springsteen are born

New York Yankees win the World Series

Philadelphia Eagles win the NFL Championship

Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup

The Second Sex by Simone de Behavior is published

I would like to direct your attention to the name I bolded, above. Mr. Erik Estrada was born in your year. Everything else pales in comparison.

WS, OWN YOUR AFFAIR, STOP PLAYING THE VICTIM!!!

Time to own it, time to claim responsibility, time to hold yourself accountable!!!!!!

No more, I was manipulated.

No more, I was taken advantage of.

No more, I was lonely.

No more, I was mistreated.

No more, my needs were not being met.

Stop playing the victim!!!!!!!! Once you take responsibility for your choices you can move on to recovery. If you are still feeling justified, you can not move ahead.

I will NOT give OM any credit in my choice to have an A. It was my choice, he did not have a gun to my head, I'm smarter than his smooth talk, I'm smarter than his manipulation, he did not win me over. I chose it, because of who I was. Not because of who he was. Would I chose it again, not on your life!!!

I am owning my Affair. I am taking responsibility for it. It was ME, not my H's neglect, not OM, it was ME!!!!!!!!!!

I'm asking all other WS, to claim responsibility, to hold yourself accountable, to know that it was all YOU, and move on to working on you, to make sure this doesn't happen again. Find out why you chose to have an A, and improve on yourself.

Rebuild yourself and your M. Stand up and say,"I" made a mistake, I am sorry, and I will lead my life differently so I do not repeat history.

When you have taking control, when you have stopped pointing the finger, when you own it, you can then move on from it. I really feel this is a pivotal step to recovering a better you and a better Marriage.

Once I stopped being the victim of my H's past behavior, and of the OM's lure, I was able to really embrace my mistake, and work through it, and see me for who I was at the time. I was able to see how my character flaws played such a huge part in my choice to have this A.

I'm in no way saying be proud of what you did. Just in case somebody misunderstands me. I'm just saying, admit your failures, admit it was you and your choice alone, admit there is something about you, that needs to be improved.

No more victims, WS & FWS. It was a very bad choice we made, but it was our choice, stand up and claim it.

I had an Affair because of my character flaws, and I'm taking steps everyday to create a better me for myself and for my H, so our marriage can be blissful and affair proof.

BS, step aside and allow them to take full responsibilty for this. I know it is less painful to think OP had control, your S failed you, it is they who need to be held acountable.

Stepping down off my soapbox.

You like him?

Erik Estrada

... my H knows him ... H worked on the show CHiPS for years ... have a cool crew jacket hanging in my closet ... I've met him a few times and all I can say is:

what's up with those teeth ????

he's actually very very nice and so good to his fans ... he would take time to make sure the kids got autographs , etc... but for me ... just does not "do it" ... I love it that he does "it" for you though
