fyi:

... is called an ellipsis.

No, and ellipsis is when the moon aligns with the earth and creates a shadow that if we look at it we all go blind and/or pee our pants.

(PS: Edit away, grammar geeks!)

And cavort wildly around a dolmen.

Wait, that's an eclipsis...

Actually, from earth perspective, the moon aligns with sol...(the science geek.)

...snort...

Ellipsi(?) are fun....

No, an ellipses is when your tongue won't wrap around the S sound and you are forced to wear pig tails and shout "My name is Cindy Brady and I sell sea shells by the sea shore" 25 times.

PS: That particular episode of the Brady Bunch was in Season One. I happen to know this because not only do I have the DVD (last years Mother's Day gift from OD) I also have Barry Williams Brady Bunch Biography. Just thought I would share that.

The rest are happily oblivious, and probably have lower blood pressure than me (I?) LOL!

That would be "I". You can always figure it out by adding a verb. In this case, it would be "than I (do)", not "than me (do)". Wow, who knew there were so many grammar freaks on this board? Were your parents English teachers, too? I'd say I'm glad I usually proofread my stuff before I post (those English teachers, you know!), but that would assume somebody besides my daughter was reading my ramblings...so I won't. But if I did, I'd be glad I do! Which is not to imply that an occasional grammatical oopsie doesn't slip through.

Ah....the most famous split infinitive of all: To boldly go where no man has gone before!! LOL Even the testiest of grammarians don't condemn split infinitives much anymore. To simply make an issue of this stuff is probably pretty petty anyway....besides, ark^^ is threatening to leave!!

I remember reading an article, years ago, about Thomas Hardy and his split infinitives. The nabobs didn't like them one bit, but his readers tended to greatly like them.

Now, where do commas go? Anywhere, and nowhere, seems to be the consensus, around here.

Better question, where are semi-colons appropriate and grammatically properly placed?

I don't know about my semi-colons; but I know where my colon belongs.

You saw that one coming, didn't you. You make a pretty good straight man, or whatever.

Semi-colons separate two related thoughts; each thought must have a subject and a verb.

I am guilty of semi-colon overusage.

Biologically speaking; I'm not a man.

Is that the correct use of a semi-colon?
