From Penalty Kill p.s. - What's your take on the use of "..."? Mr. W, do you mean to say that it's *not* always about me? I'm shocked, shocked to discover this! I like humor, so I can laugh at your jab. As to your question, are you referring to quotation marks? I use them when referring to something someone has actually said or written. But did you know that you're not supposed to use quotation marks for Bible verses or legal documents? I do notice that some people use quotation marks when using a word in an ironic context, which is not incorrect. But if you're referring to ....., I use them when posting to indicate a pause in thought. The next lesson will cover the usage of semi-colons. Brrring! That was the class bell. Next class is Calculus. I'm out of here!

Paragraphs. SHORT paragraphs.
I am a closet grammar nerd, I mean nut, too, but tend to write much more informally here for whatever reason. Sometimes I am shocked at myself, rereading my posts.
And "affect" can also be a noun.

I don't have a problem with grammatical or spelling errors in blogs, as long as the person writing it actually KNOWS the proper usage. For example, effect/affect and your/you're misuse is actually not a typo--its a misunderstanding of the proper use of the words. Same goes for they're/their/there. If I spell dog accidentally as dogg, it's not as much of a mistake, IMVHO. 'Course, it only matters to those who know the difference. The rest are happily oblivious, and probably have lower blood pressure than me (I?) LOL!

I loved Lemonman's use of the word penicl. It sounds dreadfully obscene, somehow.

I have a really hard time reading when someone substitutes letters for whole words... like... "u" for "you"... or numbers for words... like "2" for "too" "two" or "to"...
I suppose someone will mention that people like me... who use "..." as a break, a punctuation, a time to think or just because I like the juxtipostion (sp) of the three dots... drives them nutz. Oh, that "z"... hate it. And I carefully put (sp) whenever I worry I haven't spelled something right... which is often.
... uh ...

I think this is fascinating. Obviously, our delivery styles have a great impact on how well our message is received. Oh, we already spoke about that on another thread, though, didn't we? I am guilty of using quotes inappropriately, and for using ... and for possibly overusing hyphens and other stuff. I guess I'm less of a stickler for punctuation than grammar. We should spend more time watching how teenagers converse on the web. It's like another language to me: probably only about 20% makes any sense at all. ROTFLMAO

Pep, I've never heard your personality as loud or obnoxious. I guess we can't tell what the person wants to sound like when we read a post. I've read yours as though you are talking calmly and s-l-o-w-l-y, in an effort to get through to folks. So much for us understanding "style."

Not like you're talking slow because YOU'RE slow, but because when you slow down, it forces folks to listen. But now that I read your post as Dori,,,
I was thinking more like, "Read my lips" kind of slow, not I'm just a country bumpkin or I'm just senile kinda slow.
Too fhhuuuuuunnnnny.

LC....but you didn't say "why" effect and affect are not interchangeable. "Effect" is a nown....a thing. "Affect" is verb....an action. You can "affect" something (you can cause it to change by your actions). But you cannot "effect" something because that is NOT your action (the CAUSE of the change)....it is the change itself (the effect). Okay....grammar lesson over LOL. You mean like we affect effects? At the jail when they let you out they say "gather up your effects". At least I'm pretty sure that is what they said to me that day. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> This is where I have major problems in writing. It's so hard, this proper use of affect/effect. Can we spend some more time on this please?

Gawd, how I love "Finding Nemo". Its my all time fav feel good movie. And Dory was my fav.
Anything by Pixar, I love. And if I ever decided to change jobs, even tho my current place of employment has always been my dream job, working at Pixar is def my second choice.
