Biologically speaking; I'm not a man.

Is that the correct use of a semi-colon?

No, it's not. But I'm sure that you use your colon correctly!

I obviously enjoy grammar waaay too much.

I don't know about my semi-colons; but I know where my colon belongs.

You saw that one coming, didn't you. You make a pretty good straight man, or whatever.

Biologically speaking; I'm not a man.

yea

but you've got a man's name

JOE

I beg to differ, its spelled "JO". The feminine counterpart of JOE.

I think folks use semi-colons like bows on wrapping paper... they realize they wrote a whole essay, and haven't used one yet, so they throw one in somewhere; others don't use the semi-colon b/c they are afraid, and opt for the period instead. LOL! This has been really enlightening! Give us some good examples of that darn semi-colon, and we'll feel obligated to step up to the plate and swing. (Oops, now we need to talk about improper application of idioms and analogies, too.)

I feel like someone just drove a semi through my colon. Does that count? And my daughters have children. That makes me a grammar--although not always a proper one!

I wish my H would get home. I hate this one late night a week! Of course, it means I get the dubious pleasure of hanging out here for hours on end... or is that hours-on-end?

I did stop to watch the highly intellectual show: Lingo.

By the way, Jo, or Joe, or Jose or whatever you're calling yourself these days... when someone says: "I'll take a cup of Joe"... do they mean YOU?

And if Jo is female, somebody'd better specify just what cup they're talking about, too!

Okay, wait a minute. Is [somebody'd] a legitimate use of word punctuation?

Awwe, here's a perfect opportunity to use semi-colons:

[color:"blue"]Possibly; perhaps even probably; not.[/color]

THERE! More better.

It makes me cranky when editors take sentences, usually dialogue, which I have deliberately written in conversational vernacular, and make them exactly proper, and thus stilted.

But I am all in favor of correctness most of the time.

Still, if someone wants to end their sentence with a preposition, I say they get to.

But if she were speaking Texan, "somebody'd" would be followed by "bettah".
