I don't consider myself to be an alarmist, but the current geoplotical situation seems to be progressing towards a world war. Many of us are so caught up in our day to day lives and problems that we don't realize the current situation could quickly disintegrate into WWIII.
Lebanon has no control over the Hezbollah who are most likely supported by Syria. Iran is supplying weapons to Hezbollah and appear to want this conflict to escalate. Israel has made it clear they will bomb Syria and Iran if needed to protect themselves and if that happens it will surely pull in Russia and even China.
There are rumors that Iran has the capability for nuclear weapons and if they get their hands on a medium range missle targeted for Tel Aviv all of us are in serious trouble.
When you think about what is happening how the situation may ultimately turn out, it puts many of our problems into perspective.

In fact war or not, here in the US we have been at war for the whole time my WW's 3 year affair has been going on, So making it a world war makes no difference, just means were fighting on more fronts.

The difference I see is that WWIII could be fought, in part, within our borders. That would be an extreme shift from our nation's recent experiences in war and one that may change our perception of life in general.

In the following excerpt of Matthew 24, the disciples asked Jesus what would be the signs of the destruction of Jerusalem, and the end of the world. They thought both would happen at the same time. Jesus didn't burden them by telling them that time would go on for hundreds and hundreds of years after Jerusalem was destroyed. He simply informed them what would happen, but in such a way that it applied to both events. So this prophecy was already fulfilled once, and is a fair picture of life in our day, as well. Matthew 24 3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all[a]these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. But there is good news for those who believe. From the 'sister passage' in Luke: And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption draweth nigh. Luke 21:28 Whether a person should/does believe this is a whole separate question, but for those who do believe, there are promises and comfort in knowing that this is part of a plan, one that will end suffering and pain forever.

My W and I discussed middle east problems this morning. There have been troubles on and off since Israel was made a nation in 1948 (I think it was 48?)
If you believe the bible, it will continue until the final battle when major armies will be arrayed against them......... and Christ will come again to end the conflict.
I think you did a good job Neak. I agree.

I think sometimes about all the pain in the world. I hope we can ease that here, even if only a little bit.

Personal opinion.
We have been way too soft over the years with irrational people, kingdoms, leaders, etc.
I would simply state what we expect to happen when it threatens our country or countries that we have an obligation to protect (treaties, friends, etc) and when the first violation of that communication was conducted then mean what I said and carry out the consequences each and every time. Power, strength, consistency is all that is understood by some including some WS's

Often the people at home don't support a leader who does this, and they are voted out.
I think it's a complicated thing and often the state of the local economy has much to do with decisions about foreign policy.
I do agree that consenquences are a good thing for bad behavior.
