This weekend WW and I decided that we are going to try to work on our marriage. I have talked to Steve Harley once already, and I would like to continue with him, but WW really wants someone here in town, and I tend to agree.

So my questions are:

1) Does anyone have any suggestions for good MCs in Austin, TX? Especially any that might be well-versed in the MB program.

2) Any suggestions for finding one? I can call every one in the book and ask, but that's going to get real old, real fast.

Any help is very much appreciated. I'd like to get started soon.

Thanks,
NYS

P.S. I realize there is another area specificaly for MC questions, but there's nobody there, and the posts are all very old, and usually unanswered.

Call Dr. Harley and ask if there is anyone in your area. I remember when I counseled with Jenn Harley many years ago that you could ask if there was someone local.

Good luck to you and your wife!

I often wondered if it would be a smart idea to have a thread of good, local MCs that people could access when they were looking. I had a WONDERFUL MC who, while not versed in the MB principles, was VERY pro-M. H and I just loved her.

Would it be inappropriate to list them, without their permission and on Dr. Harley's site?

Just curious...

I think it would be a great idea to have a list, but I would understand if it was a conflict of interest, business-wise.

So someone smarter than I will have to determine the ethics of such a thing.

But thank you for bringing that up. If someone out there has a specific recommendation (a name and number), and you don't feel comfortable sharing it publicly, you can always send me a personal message. However, it would be a shame to supress the information. There really should be a public repository for this type of sharing. Maybe MB isn't it though. I don't know.

As for how I'm feeling, S_S, I'm writing a post to my original thread right now (it's sort of long, and I keep getting distracted with work) so bear with me.

The short answer is I'm feeling pretty good. It was a good weekend, and I'm glad we're moving forward, however slowly.

I'll call Dr. Harley and see what they say about recommendations. If I find anything out that's relevant, I'll post it here.

I talked to the counseling service. They don't do recommendations, but they referred me to the FAQs about finding a good counselor, which means start making calls and asking questions.

So that's what I'll do.

I didn't ask if the discussion boards were open for recommendations, so that's still out there. I've already made a couple of calls, and if I find someone, I'll mention that here. I won't mention any names, but I'll just say I found someone in Austin, send me a private message if you want to know more.

That's what the "How to Find a Good Marriage Counselor" forum should have in it. IMO.
