Stress can definitely cause this to happen.
It is very well known that stress causes irregularities in the menstrual cycle.

I had a similar problem post A.
I was also on AD's, and my doctor let me know that the meds and the stress of A recovery were likely the cause of my irregularity.
It did settle out over time, and now I'm medication free and fairly regular.

Stress can absolutely cause irregularities ranging from ammenorrhea (no period) to more frequent, longer, heavier, spotting etc. However, depending on your age, what type of birth control you use (if you do) and current health there could be other issues going on. Most likely it is stress but you should see your family doc or gyn to get a check up and be sure there is nothing else triggering your irregular bleeding. It's always best to be sure and that way you can rest assured and get to know your body better.
For years I have had the pleasure that as soon as I am faced with severe emotional stress I will instantly begin to bleed...I can go through emense physical and mental (work) stress and never have an issue...as soon as my emotional state reaches DEFCON 4 it is an entirely different story!
Hope that helps...make an appt:)

BB,
Question: Were the menopause symptoms temporary and go away or did you go through menopause? I am 38..is it possible that I could be pre menopausal?
Thanks, Jilly It's possible - can you ask the other women in your family, such as your mother, aunts, etc., at what age they went through menopause? That might tell you what to expect for yourself. Hang in there - Mulan

Everything went back to normal again and I wasn't going through menopause. At times I had my period 2x a month. One time with ovalation and the next time without ovalating.
I got everything checked out and my gynologist couldn't find any explanation for what was going on. (I didn't tell her about my marriage stress)
I was 39 at that time and it lasted for approx. 1 1/2 years. I'm 45 now and still no symptoms of menopause.
During this stressfull time, I also had terrible pain on one side of my backhead. I got this checked out too.........they didn't find anything. I had intestine problems that were very critical.........got this checked out and again, they found nothing. My stomack crampted regularely and after getting this checked...........well you can guess....they found NOTHING!
I would also faint out of the blue.........this was also checked out...................they found........yupp...............NOTHING.
Now years later, without this d-d stress I'm doing great. My body had calmed down and never again have I had any of these symptons.:p
Oh I also forgot to mention that I had a terrible ear problem that came out of the blue. This went on throughout the stress. I never told my ear-doctor about my problems but he'd always give me a "look" and tell me that I had to get rid of the stress that I was going through......I'm sure he knew exactly what he was talking about.

Menopause is related to when you started having periods. I started a 9 years of age and was scheduled not to hit menopause until I was in my sixties. My sisters began at 16 and both had menopause in their mid forties. the earlier you start the later you finish. Have your doctor do a FSH blood test, it will show where you are.
I was lucky, the meds from the cancer helped my menopause come earlier, still ten years after my sisters, but here at last.

"When I left the pharmacy yesterday it was with a shopping bag full of meds. My medicine cabinet which already had what seemed like a lot of meds to me now looks like a mini pharmacy. I did discuss my concern about dependence on meds with my doctor yesterday. She said she doesn't forsee a problem as I have not had a problem in the past. My biggest concern with dependency is with the anti anxiety meds. Since I have been on one of these for 6+ and the other for about 2 years without a dosage change she said I should stop worrying about it and let her worry about it."
Have you considered drug interactions?
Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while being treated with this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Grapefruit juice can increase the amount of certain medications in your bloodstream.
Some drugs affect the removal of Xanax from your system (CYP 3A4 substrates, inhibitors and inducers) such as: other azole antifungals (e.g., fluconazole, voriconazole), certain anti-depressants (e.g., fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, nefazodone), certain anti-seizure medications (e.g., phenytoin, phenobarbital), cimetidine, macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin), rifamycins (e.g., rifampin), ritonavir, St John's wort. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take drugs that cause drowsiness such as: antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine), anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine), medicine for sleep (e.g., sedatives), muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, tricyclic anti-depressants such as amitriptyline), tranquilizers.
You mentioned your medicine cabinet looks like a mini pharmacy. What exactly are you taking? Why are you taking more than one benzo drug?
Why would you need benzo drugs if you are taking AD's? A good AD should prevent panic. Medications like SSRI’s ( Serotonin-specific reuptake inhibitors ) are currently preferred to Benzodiazepines as they are effective and relatively safe with no addiction potential.
Have you ever heard of in-between dosage withdrawal? You have been taking Zanax ( Alprazolam is used in the treatment of Panic Disorder and also as a short term treatment for some other forms of anxiety) for six years this is NOT short term, this drug is poison to your body over time. Your anxiety can be directly linked now to your body going into withdrawal from not having that dosage on a set number of hours.
I was on Zanax for several years and every day I would feel panicky at 3:00 pm. I was suffering from in-between dosage withdrawal and the doctor didn't even know this. I have been off all meds for a long time and have never felt better. I have suffered from panic disorder for over twenty years.
If this drug is used for an extended period of time, laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., liver function tests, complete blood count) may be performed periodically to check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more details. Do not always trust the doctor to make the right decisions for you and your health. They do NOT know everything and often prescribe drugs because of kick-backs they receive from the pharm. companies.
Be careful with this get a second opinion.

I hope you will get on some reliable birth control. Withdrawal doesn't work. Condoms are necessary each and every time.
It concerns me that you have marriage problems, panic attacks, and are fine with getting pregnant. Please get some counseling.
AD's and counseling will help the panic attacks, and then you can get rid of the Xanax.
It sounds like you might have some hereditary issues - brain chemical problems. The AD's will help, and so will counseling.
Let's get you healthy and happy and your marriage on track before you consider pregnancy.

Well, I know jj is probably not going to see this but perimenopause can start in your mid 30s. No one ever tells you about it though.
One good book on the topic is The Change Before the Change.
