I adore Christmas Vacation - when he gets the lights going and the town blacks out.... I mean is there really a funnier movie sequence?

Pep, thanks for the link! I see this was the best foreign language film of the year. You know, except for my own mother tongue (Afrikaans) and my second language (English) there are ELEVEN other languages used by the majority population in South-Africa which I can’t speak and/or understand at all. Pep, is the film re-recorded in English or have it 'sub-headings' (for translation) to make it ‘understandable’ to the viewer?

It has subtitles ... and, I believe it's spoken in Afrikaans....
Suzet* .... it's VERY good
get past the really difficult violence in the beginning .... this film has [color:"red"]heart [/color] .... in the end

Thanks Pep, I will definately make a plan to watch this movie. I don't think the movie was recorded in Afrikaans (Afrikaans are mostly used by the minority population in SA), but the subtitles will do! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Can you believe I'm living in SA and I'm not even aware of this award winning film which was recorded here - what a shame! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Pep, My H just arrived to pick me up from work and said he knows about the film Tsotosi and was aware of the reward. He said he wanted us to go watch it when it first showed at the movies, but it was shown for a very short period of time and we never got to it. My H saw a preview of the movie on TV and said the languages used in this movie are a mix between Afrikaans, English and some African black languages. In SA when these languages are mixed like this, it’s called ‘Fanagalo’. Interesting! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Suz - the SA au pair that lived with me spoke Afrikaans to her parents, but only English to her younger brothers. She said they couldn't speak Afrikaans. I thought that was interesting, but a little sad - a sign of losing the heritage?
