It is wise to be skeptical of the dating sites. I'm not dating yet since my D is not final. However, I was looking at a popular site for fun with a friend. I saw an acquaintance that listed himself about 6 years younger than his real age. I also saw a cousin that has a history of alcohol abuse and violent mental problems, that came off as quite sweet in his profile.
On the other hand, what do we know about the people we meet face-to-face. I found out that another acquaintance listed on the same dating site that he is interested in erotica (never would have expected that of him).

I have been on the dating sites and meet women through friends, at parties and and social places. I can't say I see a lot of difference, except that meeting face to face, saves wasting time on somebody who you just don't feel good about.
My current squeeze was met online. She is a doll. Intelligent, a good conversationalist, but still calm and quiet. She looks good, subtly sexy, has class, but is not flashy-trashy.
And, unlike so many women in their 50's this one actually thinks it would be OK to get remarried if she met the right guy. Me? Well, that will take a lot of time to find out. But, it is refreshing to meet a woman who uses the terms 'marriage' and 'wife' instead of 'life-partner', "traveling companion", 'significant other' and 'long term relationship'.
