Remote installation of spyware requires you to "trick" the target into installing it.
It usually takes the same tact as a trojan payload.
You send the target an email with an attachment that looks innocent -- a new screen saver, a self-extracting zip file with some pictures, etc. Once the target executes the file, the spyware is installed.
CRITICAL: the target most always must be logged on as an administrator for Windows XP or 2000. A standard user will not be able to install the software.
Some spyware packages with remote installation capabilities bundle utilities that allow you to incorporate the spyware installation routine with another, letigitmate application. So when you send "New pictures of the kids" in a self-extracting zip file (*.exe) and the target executes the file the pictures show up and the software is installed. You usually pre-configure the spyware to email results to your account before creating the deployment package.
You must ensure that the email software the target is using does not block executable content or you need to zip it first.
You should fully read the documentation before purchasing any package. There are several with remote installation routines. You also should have some idea of the target computer -- is it running a firewall or anti-virus/spyware package that might detect the installation and alert them as to its presence.
If possible (you said it was a shared laptop), I'd wait until I had physical access to the machine and do the spyware installation.

You usually pre-configure the spyware to email results to your account before creating the deployment package. You should also set up a different e-mail account just for this purpose. A web-based e-mail account that you can access via anonymous proxy would be best.
