Hi.Does anyone know how to change a scanned document to MSWord?
This is for my work. I have a copy of a 90 page contract, and no electronic copy. I scanned it, and opened with adobe. But I want it in Word so that I can copy and paste.
Or is that against some law?

No law against it but you need to not scan it into PDF and use OCR software to convert the scan to text that Word can understand. If you do have a document that you print to PDF and have full blown Adobe Acrobat (nor just the reader) you should be able to edit it. Adobe is very protective and it is hard to change Adobe files. That is its purpose.
Adobe is best used for documents that should never be edited. That is my understanding anyway. There are hundreds of OCR (optical character recognition) programs some of which I am sure are free. But you do get what you pay for.

I will say that I have spent thousands of dollars in a quest for good OCR software. My conclusion is that it is faster just to retype the darn thing. And I have worked on 1000 page contracts. If you do use OCR, proof it carefully. The better the scan, the better the conversion. Proper alignment on the scan pays off in spades. Things even off a degree from vertical are very problematic. Good OCR software isolates what it can't read. Unfortunately it also converts some of what it can't read.
I will be happier when voice recognition comes of its own and you can just read to your computer. I have a funny story about VR software and how it cost me a hard disk. Gee, I guess it isn't really all that funny when I think about it.

Its been a long time since I've done it, but I think I was able to highlight the text and copy and past. Like I said, it has been a long time, so I don't recall exactly how I did it. I know I have done it.
Either that, or I was able to do a save as, and change the text below to the format I wanted. rich text format is a good way.
I know, not much help. I really don't recall exactly now I did it, it has been a couple of years or more.

One more thing, when I scanned it, I did not save it as a PDF, save it as a word at the time it was scanned

bits and pieces are starting to come back
Try going into the document you scanned, and open it, do a save as, and see if you can change it to work or RTF

Hi B
I had exactly the same problem at work and FINALLY got them to buy Adobe Professional 6 - only cost about $120AU or $60US so now I can create, edit or convert ANY pdf doc to virtually anything.
If you scan it save it as a RTF first then format it and save as word in Word.
If you are having trouble save or download the pdf as a pdf file & if you want I'll take it to work convert it for you and email it back..just let me know.
love
