I've been dating a guy for about 7 months now. He was getting a divorce while we first started dating, but they hadn't been together for 7 months before we started dating. They had a decent relationship, no cheating, nothing too disatrous, it just failed. They were young when they got married and they lived together before marriage.

We've been talking a lot about marriage lately. We both want it and it's something important to both of us, but only when it's the right time. We both think we should wait until I'm out of college before marriage. But we're crazy about each other! It just seems like marriage is the next appropriate step.

My question is how long is a decent amount of time before he marries again? I'm ready to marry him now, but he may not be and that's ok. I'm not going to push anything on him, I know he has healing to do. But, is a year long enough? Two years? Is it the same for any marriage, whether it's the first or tenth: When the two or you are ready?

well.... first off if i may ask.. how old are you and how old is he? i don't want to jump to conclusions that you are really young since you state you need to finish college because i, at 35, am in college and still need to finish!

i would say it is different for everyone on when somone is ready to marry. take it from us pros who have been there done that, TAKE YOUR TIME before you marry someone. there is no rush to jump into marriage. if you 2 are exclusive then why rush? he'll still be there 2 years from now if it is meant to be and you can marry anytime. i know for me, i wish i would have waited longer before marriage. i will wait longer this time around and really know the man and really be sure, and there is no rush.

most, NOT ALL, but most people who are divorced are a little gun shy of the marriage thing happening again right away. it is such a huge decision. remember, it is supposed to be a forever decision. a forever decision takes lots of time. so much goes into a marriage, and god forbid, if it ends, so much goes into ending it and so much is ripped from you if it does.

no one can predict the future, or no one would ever get married! LOL but just know that marriage is a very big deal, a very big commitment, and really requires lots of time to know someone. and, if he is "smart" he will really wait before taking that plunge again. he will enjoy dating you and being only with you, and really just wait and be sure he is ready for the marriage thing again. be patient, don't push him, finish college, and take it from there. if it is meant to be, it will be.
