This was originally posted by Ark~~ on 01/17/06 and it's one of my favorites. For marriages struggling through growth, conflict and communication, infidelity or loss of a child...I believe this is essential... perhaps very soon you both could write a story about eachother...
in which you both can see eachother with your flaws... and know that for a while you both took really wrong paths in your marriage...
and that for a while you really lost one another and started turning down roads that lead far far away from one another.... and
that along away you picked up a lot of ugly thorny sticks and started carrying them round...each of you convincing yourself that it was the other that made you pick up these ugly piercing sticks...and the branches would cut your hands and arms and make you bleed...
and then maybe in the story you could write about how each ones burdon became too much to bear...cause the thorns you carried really did hurt...
so each of you began to lay them down....and quit carrying them....and it was really hard to let them go at first..for you had traveled so far with them close to you...
and that your paths which you believed were so far from one another..were really just mirrored reflections as were the bunch of nasty thorny sticks you each carried..
.and that each time you layed one of the branches down..your once seperate paths started to come closer and that which you once believed was impossible because neither could see around the huge thorny branches in your hands was that you two really had been side by side.all along....
each believing they traveled alone..yet always right there next to one another....hurting and walking blinded by your own burdons....
and that what you both believe was so hard for so long...really wasn't that hard....
and that the truth is that so much about marriage....truly truly truly is ... as simple as laying down alot of those cutting thorny branches we are all so focused on picking up along our way....
and to stop pulling those branches intowards our heart where they fester and take root....
but to leave a lot of those thorns on the path...
just leave them...
and not carry that weight such a long time....
I believe you two could write a story like that... I guess I must believe that...
cause it all came to me when reading your post....I think see two people peeking from out behind a lot painful burdon each carries in their hands...
and you might want to lay some of them down...
hhhmmmmmmmmmmm ARK Coming from love and not fear is our choice. Only we can choose. LA
