I wanted my husband's text messages too. My cell provider is Cingular. I called Cingular and they told me that they don't have the actual text messages (what was said back and forth). They said they could only provide me with the time and number. Well, I already had that on my bill. They didn't help me at all.

So, as far as I was told, you can't get them.

So far as I know, Nextel is the only provider that will let you access TM's online. If you have their premium TM service, you can log into the online account and view everything.

Maybe you should get him a Nextel when you are in R, and not let him in on that handy little feature for a while. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

by law they are required to keep the text messages so the federal government can check on them if need be... they are mostly available via subpoena. So just remember that if you need to. Also there are rules about the txt message storage, like the first 60 days its with the provider, after that its dumped onto tape and sent to a secure location and held for like a year and then after a year its finally erased... so if your going to need it your going to have to have your court action sooner than later.

I think there are programs you can use that will read deleted texts from the SIM card of a phone. I've not tried any myself, but I also think I've read that you can buy a SIM card reader that can do this too..?

this_hrts is right--without a subpoena, you have to have a SIM card reader and computer program. If my H had continued the affair, I would've certainly gotten one and checked his phone. They texted more than they talked. Sometimes I still want to read those messages--

Do an internet search for SIM card reader, and there are several different ones out there. You may even be able to buy them at office supply stores, I don't know. Here's one description from Amazon (emphasis mine):

Product Description
FoneMate SIM Card Managers can read and write to all common SIM cards. Updating your phone book, transferring data and pictures from your mobile phone to your PC has never been easier. Sync your mobile phone contact list to Microsoft Outlook.

The one described above is only about twenty bucks. It sounds like you manage the financial stuff at your house, so you could order this without his knowledge, if that's necessary.

My provider doesn't even list the times of texting on the bill, because we pay a lump sum for unlimited texting. They don't even offer an online look at your bill.

Hope this helps.

mama4, do you need a PIN or any other kinds of passwords in order to use the SIM card reader/manager? Do you happen to know how far back texts are saved on the card? Knowing the content of texts from November would really help me out and I know they've been deleted from the phone's interface.

I'm thinking of trying this-- thx for info posted so far.

To recover deleted messages (if they can be), it looks like you'll have to use a program of some sort (in conjuction with the SIM card reader). Here's a couple of links that I found on a quick search:

http://www.findapp.com/fMgmt/pdetails.aspx?PID=21668

Hope this helps. The prices for these two programs are $95 and $69 respectively (USD).
