Google desktop..is it effective w/ spying?

I have very little tools I can legally use to spy with.
How well does google desktop perform w/ archived emails, chats, etc??
How long does it take to actually be able to read files after downloading??
I tried, but it said something about needing puter to be idle for about 3 hours to get the files...
Just wondering if this is effective enough of a tool for us to use??
How long "ago" really will the files typically show??
I cant leave it installed for too long, or else it would be discovered. I uninstalled very quickly today with no luck...but then again, it said it needed a few hours.

emma,

yes, it is one of the tools that i used to discover my wifes affair. as long as the person you are using against is not that technically savvy, they will never know. Just delete the obvious stuff like the shortcut in the programs menu, etc. and yes, it will take a few hours to archive everything, but it will do it in the background. on a fairly modern computer, the user wont even know. and it picks up everything. just be ready to see things that will most likely cause you a lot of hurt.

It also shows a little icon in the system tray (lower right-hand corner of the screen) - can that be turned off? If so, I'd recommend doing it.
