Well, I just got the phone call for my foster child. It's a 9 year old girl! I hope this works out so that we can do the foster adopt... I would love to be able to give a child a home for life. My son is going to be thrilled. We will be ot shopping this weekend to get stuff to make her room up before she even gets here. The SW will call me back with some of her interests so we can "personalize" the room for her. She is to be placed here within 30 days... more likely within two weeks.

Wow!! Congratulations on the new addition to your family!!
My DD is 10 ... it's a pretty interesting age. They want so badly to be 18 .... but also sometimes want to be 5 again.

I'm sure you'll be great.

medc,

I'm surprised they gave you a girl....not because I doubt you'll do a great job....just because it's an arrangement that seems better suited for a boy. It is a testament to how difficult it is to find homes for our foster children, but could offer a girl a opportunity to make healthy relationships with men....and that's a great thing. BLESS you!!! for opening your home to a child who really needs it. Help her find some peace and continuity in a world that's probably been really rough. If you need some girlie advice....don't hesitate to ask. I hope she brings as much sunshine into you and Ryan's life as she brings to yours.

Thank you all.... I just told my son... he is giddy!!!! He loves the fact that it is a girl....the SW said it might be better too to cut down on competition. I guess time will tell! Again, thank you all.

Congratulations MEDC...

That child is very fortunate to have such a attentive, involved, and passionate foster father.

Hope everything goes smoothly.

Is this her first placement?

this is her third and hopefully last placement.
And thank you.

We were going to go out looking at cats tonight at the local humane shelter (our kitten died right before Christmas)... we have decided to wait till she comes and let her help pick out the cat... I think it might make her feel welcome right off the bat.

give her one of those little throw away cameras

kids like to take pictures

get her a little photo album where you can put HER pictures when they are developed

creating a photo album together is very bonding
