I've wanted to start a thread like this but felt guilty doing it in GQII for reasons listed below (which I will leave for now). I also knew that it would not get much response in any other forum. So with Marie's help to assuage my guilt, I am using this thread (which started with my asking for Marie's email address) to SEEK MOVIE IDEAS.
It's the weekend and my H and I want to go to a movie or rent one. He likes action adventure/war movies and I like romantic comedies. (We both liked the "Lethal Weapons" movies and also the "Back to the Future" series although it's the only sorta sci-fi I enjoy....don't like Star Wars/Trek etc. for some reason.)
Any suggestions for new or old movies with a similar combination?
Here's a couple other qualifiers for me that might show what's worked for us in the past.
I can watch 'based on true story' war movies (Saving Private Ryan ----hands over ears/eyes first 30 min.--- Blackhawk Down, Hotel Rwanda, etc.). He says he will go see any chick flick I want to see, but it's hard to pay that much money to have to observe him in such pain watching "How to lose a guy in 10 days" or "Maid in Manhattan" or "Sleepless in Seattle"...my kind of sappy romance.
I did go with DDS, DDD and H to see one of the Star Trek movies just for family bonding time.....but it turned ugly when I fell asleep and began to snore!
What Action/Romance movies have you been able to go to a theater or watch at home together?
EDITED TO ASK: What sports movies (based on true stories) are inspiring?

Hi Marie,
I replied to you by editing my original request so I would not bump this and possibly move a genuine call for help down the thread-line into oblivion.
I cannot believe that nearly 70 people have viewed this, possibly since your esteemed (not to mention highly-regarded, larger-than-life) name is on it. (Before you left for LV, I said you were my hero....remember?)
I know you're always looking for some positive to come out of a neutral or negative scenario, so I have a question I'd like to pose to you, or any MB poster who might have an opinion.
Marie, you are the seasoned, successful, veteran pro, and I am the fledgling rookie just starting recovery. We both acknowledge that we see things differently but now I'm curious about your thoughts on this question:
***
Should a call for personal contact like this thread be steered towards the OT forum so it does not 'bump' a bonafide call for help (and its associated urgencies) by being posted on the GQII forum?
What about fun, chatty, non-urgent-just-shootin-the-breeze threads that many of us need and enjoy but I sometimes feel guilty posting to due to the affect of my 'bump' on someone who's GQII thread might fly down the page faster? Should those be located on the OT forum as well?
***
I first thought of it last week when MF was exposing live and in color, but moved most of her posting over to the Recovery forum thread, alleviating GQII "speedy bumps" (I just made that term up!) I noticed that two Recovery or JFO posters commented about disappearing threads on GQII at the time so I sent a note to MB mods, suggesting the use of the OT forum for non-urgent threads.
Justuss replied that it was an admin decision. So I sent a message to Dr. and Mrs. Harley but have not heard back yet. I realize they're far to busy to be dealing with something as trivial as this.
But is it so trivial? Would more hurting people get better help sooner if non-urgent threads were posted on the OT forum instead of GQII?
Just wondering what you (Marie) or anyone else thinks?

Ace-- If you had posted to me on the OT forum, I never would have noticed your call for help.
Your questions deal with inifidelity-- and so it is my humble opinion that the GQ forum (on the infidelity board) is the place for you to post.
Besides, doesn't GQ stand for "general questions?"... meaning this board is for general questions r/t infidelity?
Personally, I don't get so caught up in who is posting where. Years ago when I was a regular poster on these forums, I was posting 99.9% in the Recovery Forum (and rarely visited GQ).
I would guess that most posters would see your "call out" as appropriate HERE (in this particular forum). How else could you have been certain that I would see it?!
Now, if you posted a question in this forum re: Nike running shoes -vs- Mizuno's-- causing appropriately titled threads to disappear from the page-- I could understand why certain posters would be concerned. BUT, that isn't the case here... So don't worry your pretty little head. It's all good!
As for fun threads, WE ALL NEED FUN (never underestimate the power of humor)!
~Marie

Thanks for your insight, Marie. Looking forward to hearing more when you can spare the time.
Any movie ideas combining Action/Adventure and Romantic Comedy themes?

Con Air - great action, great cast.
Cameron Poe tries to get home to his wife and the daughter he has only seen pictures of and written to from jail. A very touching scene when they meet the first time.

You could try 'Gone with the wind' of course, or another oldie " Doctor Zhivago", "Casablanca", "The Princess Bride" 'The Great Raid' or 'High Road to China' The Sound of Music
will have to ask my DD she goes to the movies.... [I just wash dishes & change nappies] <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

I will toss out a few.
As mentioned yesterday:
Open Range (great western with Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner)
Rob Roy (better than Braveheart with Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange)
The 13th Warrior (East meets North circa 1100)
Last of the Mohicans (great movie)
The Burbs (Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern very, very funny)
Big Trouble in Little China (Kurt Russell in an action/romance cult classic)
Testosterone boys! Testosterone! It ain’t just for nose, ear and back hair anymore!

Coach "C",
Where did you list movies yesterday? Sorry, I missed it, trying to find Marie to tell her that if I disappeared (due to med condition) that it was not because her post upset me.
But I'm back and now I have to get to work so I'll check in tonight.
Thanks, AlllLLL!

I just watched Hidalgo on AMC (or TCM, can't remember which) and loved it. Really inspiring and I LO LO LO LO LOVE Viggo Mortensen. He's got a great voice!
Going way back, I love "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (Redford/Newman). I also like "The Great Escape" (Steve McQueen). Any Hitchcock film has drama, intrigue, the suave leading man, seductive leading lady, and mystery. Can you tell I like old movies?

We decided to play Upwords tonight instead of a movie, but Lost in the World, we both enjoyed the Thomas Crown Affair.....and The Count of Monte Cristo.....and Armageddon (sp?)....
....and we both actually like inspirational stories like Power of One......Rudy......Radio.....Remember the Titans.....and even some of the Rocky movies.
Any other good 'based on a true story' inspirational films? I'm still looking for action/romance ones, too.
Thanks,
Ace
