I think AJ is angling for honorary Texas citizenship.

If you're talking BBQ, don't forget Rudy's "Country Store and Bar-B-Q" in Leon Springs (a few miles from SAT). A couple years ago, a documentary on BBQ shown on (A&E??) listed Rudy's as one of the premier BBQ restaurants in the country, which is to say, the world. I can vouch for it. It's truly world class.

That's the Rudy's I was talkin' 'bout. I'm not overly fond of their bbq...but I could eat tubs of their creamed corn....Their sause (spelled right) just doesn't do "it" fer me...

The Leon Springs site is 'bout 5 min. from work....but boy! it gets PACKED at lunchtime!

I'll adopt ya'll. I can already tell the Dervish is tough enough to be Texan.

I never had to take the Kobayashi Maru test until now. What do you think of my solution?

And Car - verde sauce is EASY PEASY!

Just make sure the tomatillos aren't squishy...

Tomatillos are coming into season too. Very cheap at HEB.

Of course nobody can adopt AJ without adopting the rest of us, too!

And the Dervish, *delicate shudder*, could prolly give any rootin tootin Texan a run for their money. Best to make him an honorary Texan, too, so Texas doesn't give jealous.

(Also so California doesn't get a bad rep. )

The way I figure it, what's a few more to give me gray hair?

That's why God let 'em invent Ms. Clariol.

I live in Plano... but I work in downtown Dallas. I have a J Pepe's right across the street from my office. Yum! I have to MAKE myself not go there every other day.

Ninfa's Green Sauce

This green sauce is popular in many Mexican restaurants around Houston. Ninfa's was one of the first to serve this sauce. The recipe has been printed in the Houston Chronicle several times. I've adapted it slightly. Mama Ninfa Rodriquez Laurenzo opened the original Ninfa's Restaurant on Navigation street in 1973. Her food differed from the usual Tex-Mex restaurants in town. She seemed to achieve fame in the kitchen overnight. Some of her famous guests included George Bush, Michael Douglas, John Travolta, Rock Hudson, and Aerosmith! Mama Ninfa lost her battle with cancer last year, but her much loved Mexican food lives on. The original Ninfa's is still there, and there are several other locations here in Houston as well.

8 servings 30 min 15 min prep
Change to: servings US Metric
3 medium avocados
3 medium green tomatoes
4 fresh tomatillos
3 garlic cloves
3 sprigs fresh cilantro
2-3 jalapenos
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste

Peel avocados and place them in a blender.
In a medium saucepan, boil tomates, tomatillos, garlic, and jalapenos for 15 minutes.
Remove from saucepan and place all ingredients in a blender with avocados.
Add sour cream and blend until smooth.
