My divorce was final in January, sorry it didn't work out... I feel my attorney did a wonderful job,,, but now I'm having trouble getting the remainder of my retainer back... its a fairly large sum of money that she has owed me since January... has anyone else had this problem and how did you go about solving it...

Count yourself VERY lucky to have respect left for your lawyer AFTER you are done with your D. I am surprised that there is not a forum devoted just to dealing with Family Law attorneys, they are a difficult breed.
I had to go to the judge and the local bar association after my attorney ignored my requests about almost anything having to do with my D. The very next day my attorney was on the line motivated as h*ll to get things done that he was hired to do years before.
Best of luck

Certify a letter to your attorney, save the return receipt. Keep a record of emails and other letters. How much is it? If it's under a certain amount - varies by state you can take him to small claims court through your county. It only costs like $20 and your just doing that alone will make him get served with court papers and likely he'll pay. Do you have record of him admitting that he owes this money? My attorney that I fired double billed me and I think attorneys have a license to steal personally. There's a monthly billing cycle typically with businesses including my own - and every month he should write checks. You can call your local bar association and file a complaint as well - or threaten the attorney with that and likely you'll have a check within days, they are afraid of the bar association. Gosh I can't stand attorneys.

its close to $10,000.. I've tried to be understanding but to me thats alot of money...I like the idea of a certified letter... I would rather it not end on a sour note.. but I'm losing my patience...
