I bought new shoes last week because my feet hurt so badly. I don't know if that was the whole problem. Starting a couple of weeks ago, I noticed my plantar fasciitis was flaring up. It was RAGING today. I noticed it was throwing off my gait. I was putting more weight on the ball of my left foot because my heel hurt so badly. Therefore, I was favoring my left side and stressing my right knee, hamstring, and IT band. Now, my left foot is hurting, left knee has started hurting, and right leg hurts some.
The solution......time and rest. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
Three weeks to the race!!!! Like I have time to rest. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
Why couldn't it have waited till mid May to do this? <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
I'm so envious of your desire, will, and passion----you should be SO proud of yourself!
Rest, ice, and Aleve. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
UpandRunning

BS married 18 years in addition to 8 years dating since HS '04 discovered his other life w/multiple A's '05 divorced 2 wonderful girls, 19 and 17 Phil. 4:13
I am walking this half marathon. It's the same 13.1 miles the runners will do. I just do it slower. I plan on an 18-20 minute mile. I could do it faster but I want to last. However, I want to do it with less pain than Saturday.
You could do this. I've been training since November. The first training walk was 4 miles. I did get hurt at some point and went backwards on length of my walks.
I don't think I could run even a 5K. I have hamstring issues. IT band issues. Knee issues. Plantar Fascia issues. And 2 herniated disks in my neck.
If you really want to try an endurance event, check out Team In Training. That is the world's largest endurance sports training program. Their goal is to get you across the finish line. They provide a coach, a mentor, educational seminars, training program, and more. In exchange, you raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Leukemia is the #1 disease cause of death for American's under the age of 21.
Every 5 minutes, an American is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every day, 150+ Americans - more than one every 10 minutes - dies of a blood cancer.
The purposes of LLS are to raise money to fund research for cures and to provide patient and family assistance to individuals with blood cancers.
My chiropractor suggested we try a steroid injection in my foot. Trust me, this is an experience you would prefer to skip. But, it is feeling much better.
Now, I have 2 weeks to get the hamstring, knee, and IT band of the other leg happier.
But, there is MORE GOOD NEWS!
I went to the neurosurgeon today. I can come off the prescription anti-inflammatory drug and go to 2 ibuprofen 3 times a day. Continue with the traction. And, I don't have to go back to see him until I need to see him - if it starts hurting more, go back.....otherwise, we wait and see how long it will hold out. So, no spinal/neurosurgery on my neck for now.
I was at the chiropractor's yesterday-have been waking up throughout the nights in sheer agony, no way I could do what your doing!!!
I am just aching & cringing for you!!!
I used to run 10 k almost daily for a yr. Took me a year to build myself up to that level. Injuries spoils all the fun!
Wondering could your trainers get you walk on water instead???
Congratulations, for all your hard work& training!!! Your a good friend!!!
U2- song for you with a walk theme...
WALK ON...
Lyrics
Walk On..
And love is not the easy thing The only baggage you can bring... And love is not the easy thing... The only baggage you can bring Is all that you can't leave behind
And if the darkness is to keep us apart And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off And if your glass heart should crack And for a second you turn back Oh no, be strong
Walk on, walk on What you got they can’t steal it No they can’t even feel it Walk on, walk on... Stay safe tonight
You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been A place that has to be believed to be seen You could have flown away A singing bird in an open cage Who will only fly, only fly for freedom
Walk on, walk on What you've got they can't deny it Can’t sell it, can’t buy it Walk on, walk on Stay safe tonight
And I know it aches And your heart it breaks And you can only take so much Walk on, walk on
Home... hard to know what it is if you’ve never had one Home... I can’t say where it is but I know I'm going home That's where the hurt is
I know it aches How your heart it breaks And you can only take so much Walk on, walk on
Leave it behind You've got to leave it behind All that you fashion All that you make All that you build All that you break All that you measure All that you steal All this you can leave behind All that you reason All that you sense All that you speak All you dress up All that you scheme...
Back in early October, doing this was one of the last things I could have invisioned myself doing. Now, I'm so excited. I figure I have ached through enough stuff, I can do the big race - it may not be pretty but I can do it.
After all, I am Cinderella. And I have some really snazzy shoes for this thing.
I have a Strassburg sock, a rocker thing which stretches the foot as well as the entire hamstring & calf. I have some stretches I do standing or lying down. And, when I remember, I roll an ice bottle under my foot a couple of times a day. In addition, I take about 400 mg ibuprofen 2-3 x daily for my neck. I think I'm falling apart since I'm not 25 any more.
BTW, the ballet was beautiful. checked out more videos while I was there.
Gek - I don't like country music in toto....there are snippets of it - just a rare song here and there that I find tolerable. I can't stand whiney, twangy vocals - especially when sung by men wearing cowboy hats or women with big hair.
I guess they have bands along the course so that the runners/walkers can flee faster?
cinderella- I wouldget am ipodor disc player and use these albums - Never Mind the Bollocks by the Sex Pistols,London Calling by the Clash, Appetite for Destruction by Guns n Roses, If You want blood you got it OR Back in Black by Ac/DC, And Justice for all- Metallica, any Nine Inch Nails (NIN) cd, Electric by the Cult (amazing workout friendly record),or Whatever people say I am that's what I'm not by the Artic Monkeys (best cd put out in 2006).You'll thank melater for bringing you the rock.
I ran the Peachtree Road Race (6.2 miles) in 2003 with no music and pulled a 1hr 9min time, the next year I did it and used Electric by the Cult and ran the race in 1hr 1min.
Good luck
I wish I could say something classy and inspirational, but that just wouldn't be (my) style. Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory... lasts forever.
Keith and Nicole live not to far from me, I think, when they are not in CA. I didn't realize until a few months ago that I knew Reese Witherspoon's grandfather before he died.
Hey, I'll be with my friends, I'll have adrenaline, it will be good!!!!!
Got an off the wall prayer request.<img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
During training today, my coach and my mentor found a man lying on a pedestrian bridge. He was unresponsive. They turned him over and found he was a 36ish white male wearing running clothes and fairly new shoes. In his hands, he had some sports snacks. He was not breathing and had, apparently, wet himself. They started CPR and called 911. The paramedics found him with no pulse. The first part of the ECG showed only the action from the chest compressions. They entubated him, shot him full of epinepherine and something else, and started bagging him. They took him to the hospital w/ the lights and sirens on.
So, my coach (Martha) and my mentor (Niki) are pretty shook up. But, we have no way of finding out who he was or how he is doing. This brought up issues for a woman whose brother was killed in a car wreck and helped by some good samaritans. The whole team was distressed. Somewhere this man has friends, family, and loved ones.
<img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> Just keep the man on the bridge, Martha, and Niki in your prayers.
Heartbreakingly sad!!! The poor, poor man & his family at this time, and for everyone involved in this tradegy. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I wonder if his family knows someone tried to help him. I wonder how they found out who he was. I wonder how they found out who to contact. So many questions. I wonder what happened to him.
I just read the story. Always carry ID, and if possibly, have an ICE (in case of emergency) number in your cell phone.
