Folks, it's official. I completed my first half marathon with a time of 3:55:45.

It was the most excruciatingly painful thing I have ever voluntarily done. It was worse than having a baby - at least I got epidurals for that. It ranked up there with the shattered humerus - but that wasn't voluntary.

I got a medal to prove it. I wore that sucker to church Sunday and to work today.

In my age division, and you will NOT ask which one that is, I placed 676th out of 739 - and that doesn't matter.

What matter is, though I really wanted, several times, to quit, I didn't. I hung tough and, with the encouragement of two women from my team, I finished on my own two feet.

Congratulations!

I can't even imagine training for much less running a half marathon. Not on my "to do" list.

I walked the entire 13.1 miles. To have my teammates - with whom I had trained for months - there, also, was wonderful. In October, I would have laughed at anyone who said I could do this. I would have laughed. Thank you for the pats on the back.

Feet - - well, the left one is still hurting off and on. The 1/2 marathon was Saturday. Monday night, when I got my massage, it was still hot/inflamed.

Tonight, I rested a bit when I got home from work because I was tired. When I made it back to the kitchen - nearly an hour later, I announced that my left foot hurt and my right knee hurt. If the teenagers wanted dinner, they could fix dinner for three. They did a pitiful job but that was all that got cooked because I went back to my room.

I have seen the online proofs of my photos taken by the company doing photography. They are so bad that they could be used for blackmail purposes.

As a cancer survivor I applaud you and think that the pictures of you completing this have to be beautiful-because of your accomplishment.

Thank you. You know, there is something wonderful in the horriblest of the photos......You can see this look of determination and focus even though I was not happy. Kinda like in the Olympics - the folks who compete though they are struggling - because it was a struggle.

When I got to the finish area....TNT had a tent where they served lunch to their team members and families. A man who was there w/ 4 young children was there. He, clearly, had not participated. He offered me his chair which I gladly took. He moved over to share a chair w/ one of his children. He thanked me for what I had done and said his wife was on about mile 20 - she was doing the full marathon. He was 2 months past his 5 year survival date. He was diagnosed w/ lymphoma when he and his wife had a 4 year old, a 2 year old, and 6 week old twins. He was truly appreciative. That made it all worth it.

Even if my foot does hurt.
