Just about every precursor known to man was present when my wife had her affair. I ran down the list over time and tried to find a link, if any, so I could really understand the root causes. I had given up after concluding it was beyond my ability to understand given the time and academic background that I didn't have. Then I got a clue.
I want to run this by those on here who care to comment. I will use a single word and expand from there.
The word is; Attachment.
If a woman feels an attachment, she won't cheat. If she doesn't, she may or may not depending on her moral compass and an assortment of other emotional conditions. By attachment, I mean an emotional dependence of some sort, be it for the support she gets emotionally or something else the details of which I dunno since I am not a female.
I have a glimmer of an idea. Is this real or memorex? What say you?

Emotional dependence is, to me, an unhealthy thing. Being emotionally dependent on someone is the definition of "co-dependent." There's an old C&W song that goes something like, "I don't need you, but I want you," and that seems awfully apt to me.
I believe you have the cart before the horse. I've seen an analysis written about the initial stage of love. It went something like, "One is attracted to a prospective mate because emotional needs (requirements) are superbly met by that person." I don’t think that’s the same thing as being “dependent” on someone, or perhaps I don’t understand what you’re saying. Can you elucidate?

I don't think that is an absolute. I think that it is true sometimes, even then, it would have to depend on the constituents of the attachment.

I think "Respect" would be closer to a one-word reason myself.

Attachment worked the other way for my FWW, she felt attachment for OM and that formed the basis for a LTA. For me, she just felt friendship, distain, disregard, disrespect... I don't know but it wasn't as strong as this attachment.
