For the last two weeks, my wife has been three hours away from our home, at her father's home, telling me that she wants a divorce. This is not what I want, as she is the love of my life and always will be. I have no reason to doubt that she would go through with this.

However, over this time, she has been calling me at least ten times a day, just to talk. She always says that she loves me and misses me, but does not want to come back, because she is afraid that I will hurt her emotionally again. I didn't know that I had hurt her emotionally in the first place. I am more than willing to change my actions, because I now see, from reading articles on successful marriages and my discussions with others, that I am required not only to be a financial provider, but also an emotional provider. I have been down twice to visit our children, and both times, my wife has said that she loves me and misses me and holds me for long periods of time.

She has recently reopened the discussion of moving closer to her father. I told her the first time that she brought it up that I am more than happy to relocate if that is what she wants to do. She is interested in attending college in the city where her father lives, and I am currently debating pursuing a master's degree at the same school. I asked her point blank if she would continue to be my wife if we were to move closer to her father. She said maybe, which, from my four years of experience, means yes.

My question to you is, do you think that she is using my feelings toward her to coerce me into moving away from my family? She has, in the past, run to her father's home when she has become upset with me. These usually haven't lasted long, and she would come home as happy as ever. I never acted to change my thoughts and actions because I was unaware that any change was necessary! I now know that she was trying to tell me that I wasn't opening up to her emotionally enought!

I have long since moved away from the financial and emotional support of my family, but they are still an important part of my life. This move would put a three hour drive between us. I know that they are an important part of my wife's life also. My mother, in particular, has helped her through many difficult times in her life. This would also force us to abandon two years of friendships, my job, and the life that we have built here.

My goal in marriage is to raise our family in a Christian household, provide for the needs and wants of my wife and children, and only then can I be truly happy within this marriage. We have made a committment to attend Christian marriage counseling if we were to reunite. I just want to be sure that I am not mortgaging my family's and my own future for a few more months of happiness. I am more than willing to make this move. I have said many times that where we live is not important to me, as long as we are together and happy. I love this woman, and I would do anything she asked, as long as it made her happy.

Any advice at all would be helpful.
