I am a 26 year old boy. I am working with a large MNC. This is in concern with my 1.5 yrs old marriage. We do not have any children as of now. In this marriage earlier we used to stay away from my parents because of my work reasons. Starting the first week of the marriage, my wife is not co-operating on any areas. She is a housewife. And being a house wife, in our society, she is supposed to take care of the household chores. However, at the contrary, she does it occaisionally but with a sense of dis-interest. Because of the same, we have had fights ranging from the smallest to the biggest that could have happened. I try to co-operate the best I can in carrying the household jobs out, however even then she tends to pick up fights whenever I ask of her to do any particular piece of work at home.

Around 5 months ago, we moved to our parents house as I took a transfer from my workplace. We both unanimously decided on this fact as she herself said that probably once we move there we would not have any fights. However, the fights kept on going in the same way and again and again she kept on threatning that she would leave. The fact is that whenever I ask her of anything, she starts fighting. I have tried talking to her and now she has started passing sarcastic comments to me as well as my parents.

This time when I said to get the clothes ironed, she picked up a fight with me, and started packing her clothes. I requested her to stop that and asked her that we should talk about it. She refused for the same and called her parents up. Her parents also started arguing saying that 'Yes, it s a fault of our daughter and always she is on the wrong side'. I tried to tell them to not to just aggreviate the situation and lets try to get it fixed here, however, they said that they would want her to stay with them for sometime and then they will decide that whether or not she would continue with the marriage or not.

In past also her parents have provoked her to fight on these grounds.
I go ahead and do whatever she asks of me just to make sure that she is satisfied and happy with everything. However, even after fulfilling all her expectations, I have failed to gain respect in this relation as she always keeps on putting me off for everything that we talk about.

I want the relationship to heal up and continue, however this time in presence of her as well as my parents, my wife said that she needs time to think if she wants to continue and also said that she is bored of seeing the same people and doing the same work. Though the fact being, she sleeps for more than 10 hours a day, and watches TV for the most of the remaining time. The only other job she does is washing and occaisionally cooking. I have advised her a lots of time to take up some job, or do some other work alongwith all this and also have told her that even if whe wants to continue with this schedule however then she would definitely get bored.

Right now she has left my home and has gone to her parents home.
Please advise me if there is anything that I can do to save this marriage as I am extremely tensed about the situation and also advise how can I drive to change her behaviour.

Welcome, Tajender.

Almost all of us on this site come from a western culture. I'm sensing that yours is either eastern or middle eastern.

However, I think these basic concepts apply no matter what culture. Please read this entire site especially the basic concepts.

Was your marriage a love match? If so, a return to the ways of courting may help. Treat her as you did courting her. If you marriage was closer to an arranged marriage than a love match, you'll have to do a little more background work. Find out what her emotional needs are, and also her expectations from marriage. If her expectations were to lead the life of a princess, she'll need to adjust them. Perhaps her family could help with this.

Read up on LoveBusters too.

Given how much time your wife spends sleeping, I'm wondering if she may be suffering a little from depression of spirits. Sleeping a lot is one of the symptoms.

Finally, if you have a priest or pastor or whatever that is skilled in helping couples be happy together, you should consider inlisting his help. Make sure he'll help you two be happy together, not just stay married. Being miserable together is no life.

Thanks Greengables,

You are right I am from India, however mine was a love marriage. I am trying courting her and have tried to explain the situation to her as a friend without passing any judgements to her. My parents have also talked to her parents also about the scenario, however, her parents are not ready to listen and understand the scenario.

I have also asked her for marriage counselling, which she has refused time and again. Now the issue is to that level that she is asking me to move out of parents house, which already has not worked out in past. Please advise if we should go in for some psychological consultation over this?

Regards,
Tajender
