I never did care much for "Mrs" but since LCPOC has left, I have come to loathe it. For career purposes, I'm keeping my married name. But I don't want to be Mrs LCPOC anymore. I'm not really fond of Ms either. I have a PhD, so I could go by Dr, but that seems presumptuous as well. I'd prefer to just be called by my first name. "Hey You" would even be acceptable. I had a heck of a time getting new checks from the bank - they absolutely insist on putting something in front of your name.
Anybody else have an opinion on this? Do you correct people when they use the wrong one or do you just let it go? Am I just being petty?

Well, the proper, ediquette endorsed way is Mrs. Maiden Married, and you drop the ex's first name. So, if you were Miss Lana Doyle who became Mrs. Robert Mcgregory, you would then be Mrs. Doyle Mcgregory. I personally think that fun.
How about Madame Tabby?
I don't suppose it will matter much except when someone addresess an envelop, unless you live in a culture which still uses last names. Here on the east coast, children often use adults given names without invitation. It makes writhe.

I've actually run across it an unexpected amount - possibly because I've been changing all the bills into my name. I tell every company the situation up front, yet they still call me Mrs. LCPOC. This and the fact that it's easier to apply for a green card than get stinking checks printed that don't have a Mrs, Mr or Ms on them.

Yes! Absolutely!
However, for me it's a bit different... My name won't change, but whereas before, I felt uncomfortable when any attractive woman would address me, now I really like it!
I guess that wasn't what you were talking about. :P
Anyway, you've got a PhD? Cool! What in? I've also got a doctorate, but not a PhD...
Anyway, I hope you're having a good day.

Nope, I'm still Mr B.
I did change what comes after the B years ago, but other than that, I'm still Mr B.

YES! I want Ms. all the way.
As I teach school, many forms come from the office with me still a Mrs.----AUGHHH. I let it slide, and ignore it as I don't want to make someone angry. But if it were something 'big', like my nametag or sign next to my room, I'd ask for it to be re-done. My kids at school call me Mrs. all the time.

I have a funny story about names.
My fiance and I go to church with my children and most people who don't know my situtation assume that my fiance and I are married and the children are our children. One day my daughter's new friend said good bye to my daughter, then address me as Mrs.Miller and then address my fiance as Mr. Miller. We were all caught of guard we just said good bye to him and kept on walking. Once we got into the car we all started laughing.
My daughter did catch up with her friend the following Sunday and explained, needless to say, her friend was quite embarrased, now he call fiance Mr. Mike.

I'd find a new bank. I don't think I have ever seen a check with a Mr/Mrs/Ms on it, here in the Northeast. What part of the country are you in?
I want to be addressed by my first name, always. Conversely, I address virtually everyone by their first names. When I was teaching at a college, I hated being called "Mrs. ..." Occasionally someone would call be Professor ...., which would have been ok except that I was merely an instructor, and Instructor ... just didn't have the same ring to it. I had a professor once who refused to respond unless you called him by his first name. He was probably the most highly respected professor in the department.
All my kids friends called me by my first name, and my kids called their parents by their first names as well. One of my friends tried to get my son to call them Mr and Mrs when he was about 3 or 4, but he never quite got it. He ended up calling her Mrs. FirstName LastName, which was quite a mouthful.

i get my maiden name, but still have mr wonderfuls married name on it as well since that is my childen's last name.
at school kids seem to have a hard time saying MS. not sure why but it always comes out mrs. anyway! no big, i just let them do it.
