The doctor was pretty accurate and made the point several times to say that she was NOT addressing affairs.

With a married man, there is none of the game-playing. Both of you know you can talk, banter, even flirt, and the relationship will remain as it is. So the comfort level is greater with a guy who is clearly off-limits. There is no real possibility of risking involvement, rejection and all those complicated things that come with a relationship. (Of course, married men sometimes do cross the line and enter into affairs or emotional affairs, but that is emphatically NOT what we are talking about here.)
Riiiiiight, let's not talk about THAT...

DANGER WILL ROBINSON (Robot flailing his arms!!!)

That's just great; let's show potential OW that it's perfectly fine to cozy up to a married man, 'cause ain't nobody gonna take it no further....der de der...

To be fair to Dr. Saltz, she was answering the question of why women feel safer talking to married men, not should women feel safer talking to married men. She does not say that it is good and should be encouraged. And she also put the word safe in quotes, which denotes that it isn't entirely true.

Yes, I would've preferred if she'd given a caution to women not to cross the line, but she was responding to a man. And she did note that "married men sometimes do cross the line and enter into affairs or emotional affairs"

The real problem is that most people do not know what emotional affairs are.
