My FWW has told me that most nights she has a dream where she is stuck up a tree and crying. She says that when she wakes up after this she feels sad and drained.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before, I take it to be a reflection of her feelings regarding our marriage in that she feels somewhat trapped. In most other ways our M is getting better and we are getting along, laughing together again and starting to reconnect.
I feel that this is hindering our recovery and would appreciate any advice on how to deal with it, I have asked her to speak to a doctor or counsellor about it but she won't

Your wife's dream may not be a reflection regarding simply her feelings about your marriage. It could be about her life as a whole. It could be that she knows the wrong that she has done in her life and it is weighing on her soul. I say keep encouraging her. Tell her how valuable she is and let her see that value every chance you get. Those dreams may just go away on their own and letting her see how much you value her in your life can't hurt your relationship any.

Thanks guys.
Bob, I did think of you last night when she was telling me this as I did think she may be crashing, I told her I was worried about her and she said she did not deserve to be worried about, a couple of other things she said also made me think that she was struggling with guilt.

Lamby, I did encourage her, told her that neither of us could change the past or mistakes we had made but we could both affect the future and we should focus on that. I told her that although she had made a mistake she was a good person and a fantastic mother(which she is!!) and that I could see the efforts she was making in working on our marriage.

The thing that worried me was that she said she couldn't go on waking up sad every day for the rest of her life. I said that I did not expect her to, but I told her I didn't think leaving our M would stop this and may make things worse.

For what it's worth, I googled dreams about trees and found this at http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art35707.asp:

Sitting under a tree can represent wisdom, protection, peace and grounding. Hiding within the branches of a tree can symbolize a need to hide something from others. Sitting high up in a tree symbolizes a wish or ability to see the "whole picture." Birds, nests and eggs symbolize home, family and security as well as growth and new life.

Glad to see your post Brae.

Great you 2 are reconnecting.

Over the next few months, expect to see her really dealing with herself very harshly as the enormity of what she has done sinks in. You also may begin to get angry.

Let me know when you need some help with some of this. MrsK will help your wife as well.

Princessmeggy and BigK. Thanks.
In the dream she says she is stuck and crying and she thinks she is up a tree. When she has the dream she wakes up sad. Last night she didn't have the dream and woke up fine this morning.

Thanks for your help BigK. Things are much better, she says she doesn't have the passion back, but I can see small signs of progress, she does smile when she sees me now, which she didn't a few weeks ago, we laugh together and have fun,on the whole get on pretty well. "Baby Steps!!"
It is only in the last 2/3 weeks that I have really managed to stop LB's and R&M talk(the false recovery really affected me) and I have started to see some progress. I just wish I could have managed it sooner. It is just when she is waking up sad from this dream it seems to hinder our recovery a little, but as I said, she didn't have this dream last night, so hopefully she will start to come through it.
We are going to Paris for our wedding anniversary next weekend, it feels a little false celebrating a wedding anniversary this year but I think we both could do with the break.

BigK.I am happier than I have been in months and can at least see some hope. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the help you have given me. I know that without the help of yourself, BP*, ML and many others, I would be in a far worse situation than I am now. You guys are really special people.

What does SHE think the dream means? Maybe she is trying to understand why she made the choices that she did...how she arrived where she is today. As a FWW, I know it is really hard to come to grips with the ugliness of your decisions and what that says about you as a person.

It seems only she can know.
