[color:"red"] plunder [/color] is such a good word, but not heard in this century very often. Been reading any good Revolution/Civil War books lately? ~~~plunder~~~ It reminds me of pirate ships. -ol' 2long 2long, have you studied the Civil War? This is one war I just can't seem to get a handle on because it was soooo confusing. Perhaps I am reading the wrong books, but I usually get frustrated as if I am reading a Tom Clancy novel and toss it under the bed. Can you recommend any good Civil War books? Or should I just get a Civil War for Dummies book?

I'm not the civil war buff, but I grew up with one. One of my best friends had read "Lee's Lieutenants" 3 times by the time he was 18. All seven volumes.
My "speed" is watching the Ken Burns series on the civil war on PBS 15 or so years ago. Much better than "The War" that's on now.

Speaking of Ken Burns' Civil War series, there was a part in there where a black historian made the comment that "Freeing the slaves ennobled what would have otherwise been nothing but a bloody conflict."
My Civil War friend was watching that, and screamed at the TV, "It still was nothing but a bloody conflict!"
War can't be "ennobled." Period. It might be "necessary", like I believe WWII was.

Mel, I've got a book that is a compilation of interviews with slaves from that era. Actually I have two, one is interviews with Savahanian whites, and one with former slaves. It is ghostlore interviews, but a lot of the lore stems from the days of the civil war and how it affected the different people interviewed.
They are both fascinating books. I'll post the titles after I go home and take a peek at them.
As you know Mel, Savannah is riddled with history from both of the wars, and because of the bloodiness of both, lots of spirits are at unrest. (these are their stories, not mine, so don't laugh your fool head off at me).
Also fascinating, is the huge differences between the Christian and Voodoo religions, and how they exist side to side in harmony, and color the stories/lore.
