Wake Up Church

Fake smiles, replies of all is well, our cover for a secret of shame.
Our story of adultery never will we tell, for long ago we learned the game.

The church too often kicks the wounded or offers platitudes of nothingness.
Instead of practical tools to use and a safe harbor for those who've transgressed.

Wake up oh church, open your eyes, the walking wounded are inside your doors.
Stop pretending it doesn't happen to "our kind," the bold statistics prove much more.

Be a light for the sinner, a giver of knowledge, a soothing balm for the oppressed.
Don't judge the adulterer or the grieving spouse, Christ's actions and words are what's best.

Echo - tis the same all over.
It's strange to be a lonely mourner.
Most mourners have friends who weep with them.
Private sorrows have no friends.
I wonder if everyone privately weeps when their first naive love ends up like crumbs on the floor?
Does everyone frantically try to sweep the crumbs under the rug before someone notices?
