The Wedding Ring

The wedding ring - a symbol of eternal love, tenderly placed on my sweetheart's finger one glorious summer day. Standing reverently in a holy place, saying vows of solemn commitment. So proud, seeing a ring on my beloved's finger.

But a ring does not a faithful heart make. Two young lovers try to keep their vows of commitment. Try can last a long time - but a ring has no magical powers. Knowledge was needed, but there was none. So one ring became rubbish, tossed aside just like the missing diamond long ago lost.

Today my husband wears a wedding ring. Ironically, a sad reminder of a few months past not the case. A ring quickly slipped off when home was not in view. A secret life - a single life - pretending no wife waiting at home, no children to parent and nurture. A family whose lives would be forever changed.

All for what? The freedom of a finger without a ring.

Was it worth it?
