Did you get a chance to check out any of Shelby Steele's books?

I hope you don't mind a comment from me Marsh...but I find it so confounding that ANY African American supports the democratic party.

It really is confusing given their horrendous treatment of minorities in the past. They continue those ways today in very subversive but even more horrendous assaults on the AA community.

I don't understand it either, MEDC.

I'm curious to see how the African American community will respond to how the Clintons are using race to destroy Obama.

And, yes, it is very subversive.

Obama seems to only now be grasping what he's up against.

I REALLY DON'T LIKE THE CLINTONS ANYMORE...I can tell you that... <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I told you guys that I haven't been much into politics..

But I have been leary of the REPUBLICANS who used to be DIXIECRATS..like JESSE HELMS and STROM THURMOND and GEORGE WALLACE, KWIM???

I can't think of a recent REPUBLICAN whose beliefs fit with mine..GEORGE BUSH...NO..RONALD REAGAN...NO...

My H and I would be considered INDEPENDENT..one of us is actually REGISTERED that way...

16. By the time Ronald Reagan took office in 1981 both parties were being influenced by individuals who claimed they were former racist and/or Klansmen (Senator Robert Byrd, Strom Thurmond, George Wallace, and Trent Lott to name a few).

You see here, Perryman is referring to the SOUTHERN DEMOCRATS..who became REPUBLICANS..and gave the party a sour taste for African-Americans..

I remember my GREAT GRANDFATHER, who died in his 90s was a staunch REPUBLICAN. So back in the day, African-Americans did support the Republican Party.

Mimi, Senator Robert Byrd, former KLAN KLEAGLE, who still uses the "N" word, is a REVERED member of the democrat party. This dark history belongs to the democrats, not the Republicans. You might be able to change parties, but one can't change HISTORY.

You guys have made me aware that i don't know much about politics.

I do think my views would be considered liberal in some areas snd conservative in others. I may have wrongly believed that Republicans are strictly conservative and are not focused on fighting poverty which is a major concern among African-Americans.

My grandparents loved FDR. I know that. My parents loved John Kennedy. I liked Jimmy Carter....
