Best of Times. . . . . . Worst of Times

"It was the best of times. It was the worst of times." Little did I know that we would live this novel's opening line.

When my beloved takes me in his arms and reassures me of his love. . . . . when he does all the things I longed for him to do over the past many years. . . . . when love notes fill my life. . . . . smiles are now the norm. . . . . and I feel loved and cherished, it's the best of times.

But when the tormenting pictures tear at my soul, when they invade our precious times of making love. . . . . . when one random word from an innocent stranger can trigger a memory so painful it haunts me through the midnight hours. . . . . . when I contemplate the wasted years, the lost opportunities, gone forever never to be claimed, it's the very worst of times.

Perhaps the "best of times" will one day conquer "the worst."

This is the hope I tenaciously cling to.

Yes, yes, yes - so well written. The sadness is always just underneath the surface.
