I filed for a divorce on 12/11/97.
In November 1998, the judge heard the case and granted the divorce.
In February 1999, I called the court and asked when I would get my decree. They said the judge had left some paperwork unfinished when she went on vacation mid-December 1998. I got the decree in late February.
Up to that point, all is well.
XH married someone else in October 2002 or so.
Still, all seems ok.
Today I got a letter from the Circuit Court Clerk.....it is in regards to case 97D3534.
The text of the letter says:
By Order of the Court, all cases which have been pending for one (1) or more years shall be dismissed unless within the next thirty days the following takes place:
(1) A motion to set is filed and heard by the Assignment Judge for Jury Cases and for Non-Jury and Divorces to be heard by the Trial Judge; or
(2)Specific permission is obtained from the Court for this case to be exempted from this one(1) year rule.
In an Order setting the case for trial is not filed within thirty (30) days, or exempted under paragraph two (2) above, this case shall be dismissed.
So, tonight, I don't know if I'm married or divorced. That means my x may have two wives. The Diplomat of the Far Kingdom is about as unhappy as I am.

I would laugh, but my mind immediately starts with questions...what does this mean, surely it's a mistake, will this cost me MORE money, this is SO not right, what IF he has 2 wives, can I send him away, do I have to tell the kids...you get the drift <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> Hang in there--- UpandRunning (who BETTER BE divorced since 11/05!)

Cinderella, did you make a typo? He got married in 1992, and you filed in 1997?
I suggest getting on the Circuit Court's website, doing a search for Family Law cases, dissolutions/divorces, see if punching in your case number leads you to something that gives the status of the case.
Sometimes courts send out mass paperwork mailings, to everybody, a "just in case" and your mail might be computer generated. If so, there could be thousands of worried divorced people in your state this weekend, worried without reason.
Maybe you could add this situation to your clowning routine. For the adults, that is; not for kids.

Checked out the website. Can't access the information. I'm taking tomorrow off. I need to find out if I'm married or divorced. That seems really important right now.

The good news is....I am divorced. The letter is regarding a contempt of court citation that he filed against me for dragging my feet on making him the beneficiary of an insurance policy. But, I did what I was supposed to and he dropped the ball. If he does nothing further about the contempt charges, they die within 30 days. After 10 years or so, I don't see any need for him to spend money to resolve this.
