I'm visiting a sister on the Right Coast this weekend. She was helping one of my other sisters get rid of old stuff recently so she could move closer 2 the Left Coast. While going through boxes of old stuff my dad had in his garage (my dad passed away 2.5 years ago, my mom 11.5 years ago), they found a box of slides - taken on their honeymoon 2 Yosemite in 1946 or 1947.

None of us kids had ever seen these before.

I'm going 2 look in2 getting either a slide scanner or copier while I'm over this weekend.

2cool.

In related news, I talked 2 my W on the phone before calling my sister. She's still going through boxes of stuff stored away after the fire at our house - yeah, that was more than 6 years ago! In this one box were some 5x7 prints from our wedding. She showed our son the pic2res. He's 21 now, and looks very much like I did at that age - long hair and beard and all!

My W made the denim suit I wore at our wedding, plus her dress and all the bridesmaids dresses. We had the wedding outdoors in a park, with a pot luck picnic for a reception afterwards. I remember my mom not being 2 thrilled that I wore my Lowa Alpspitzes complete with bright red shoelaces!

How absolutely kewl!! A little formerly "undiscovered history" there! Nostalgia all over the "2long spread" this week.

IMHO, definitely the former. You may find that having them digitized will help in restoration. Genealogists(pro and amateur-like myself) often use these to copy/digitize 35mm microfilm...I don't have one now...sold it back a few. They tend to be relative expensive due to the incredible resolution(72Kdpi+).

Good luck and hope your W feels the stir of old feelings(for U)!

Yo 2long, I grew a beard this winter so I could look more like you.

But I can't get on board with the sneakers. I'm a boot man.

Did you say denim suit? Niiiiice.

Fear not, gc...

The Lowas were about 2 or 3 pounds each, as I recall.

Mountaineering boots, not even just hiking.

My feet grew a half size about then, so they were my 2nd pair. That was good in that they weren't so worn out, but bad in that they weren't as well made as the first pair.

Nice find...those slides.

I used to have some cool hiking boots with red laces back then too....but I didn't wear them to my wedding. We got married outside by a log camp/cabin without electricity...(the friend's property used to be a children's camp) on the rocky Maine coast with the water and a view of little islands behind us. I made all the food except the cake.
