One of the best original and heartfelt gifts my DH ever gave to me was on our 10th wedding anniversary. I guess you could use the same idea for Valentine's day as well.
We were eating lunch and he hands me a small box wrapped in layers and layers of silver aluminum foil with a ribbon on it. It weighed a ton. I opened it and inside it was filled with silver coins (dimes, nickels, quarters, etc.). The card said, "I love you so much and I'm looking forward to the day that we celebrate our silver anniversary."

That is so sweet, pm. So very thoughtful. Means so much more than the candy/flower routine, although those are nice too if they came from the heart.
WH used to have his mother order me flowers in the last couple of years before he became wayward. One year, I got a cactus. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Oh no! Don't tell me we have to post our Valentine's Day nightmares on here now <sigh><lol>
Last year, in the midst of the vicious fight over the Financial Separation, WH got his pretty new secretary to organise a really expensive special Valentines dinner for us. She called me to tell me about it billing and cooing about what a wonderful husband he was.
I almost bit off my own tongue in the struggle to prevent myself from telling her what a wonderful husband he really was.
Luckily he had (as usual) omitted to invite me first so I was able to say I had a prior commitment.

Okay, on the flip side of my romantic DH, when he was a WS, he had his OW pick out my Christmas gift (two sweaters). Needless to say, they became recycled gifts-- my garbage can loved them!
And for our anniversary that year, he took OW#2 out for her birthday. The year before that though, he gave me 25 roses (our 25th) and a card that said he'd marry me all over again. A month later the affair began with OW#1. Go figure.

A month later the affair began with OW#1. That kind of stuff just floors me. It's amazing how quickly that switch gets flipped and they are unrecognizable to us. Fox

My WS brought a valuable plate back from a trip where he had secretly taken FatSlag, her country. He presented it to me proudly.
Shortly afterward was D day.
WH expressed dismay when I threw it out. He told me that I should not chuck it out as Slag had specially chosen it for me <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
Actually that story has a happier ending than most because my neighbour at the time was moving out and happened to have a valuable pottery collection. I notice the plate was missing from the garbage and realised that the movers must have picked it up and put it into his collection.
I bet he is still wondering where that plate came from :-)
