In the end... I'm ashamed to admit it but it's the truth: I tossed a coin.
Then I noticed the pretty girls at the Obama table and the old ladies at the Hillary table and knew I'd chosen well. I laughed when I read this, and then it occured to me... this tells nothing of how the coin fell. I'll assume Obama. My H doesn't hate Gov. Clinton, he likes and admires her. And me, I just like Obama better, but my decision is far from made.

mimi,
I don't care what color you are, and I don't care what color Obama is either.
The reputation of the United States has taken a nose dive in the last decade in the worlds opinion. For whatever reason, many in the world believe that Obama represents hope for us and for the world. That's pretty heavy stuff.
I think that we need some hope that things will get better that our Nation will adopt less of a "we can do anything we want, do as we say not as we do," attitude.
If Obama, or Mickey Mouse can help us out here, well I'm all for it.
BTW, my two bi-racial adopted daughters used to refer to Mommy as Pink. You can see me and DD #1 on the MB Photo thread. WE BOTH BE GODDESSES.

These political fights never work.
I'd done all my research in time for Super Tuesday but I was still undecided. I even wrote down pros and cons! It was a wash.
Clinton would know exactly what she was doing from day one, and you could count on her to make good competent Cabinet appointments.
And despite Obama's incredible rhetorical skills I think Clinton actually has more imagination when it comes to policy stuff.
And she really has out-debated him. No contest.
But she's so hated. I think almost all of this hatred is unfounded. But I know a plenty of people who generally vote but don't follow politics. Lots of them don't like her. Some don't even know why. Some don't like dynasties. Some just don't want to be spectators for another several years' worth of mudslinging, which would arguably be nastier if HRC were President.
I stood in line at my caucus and chatted up everyone who was willing. Most people were barely if at all in one camp or the other. The consensus was that most people wished nobody had to lose.
In the end... I'm ashamed to admit it but it's the truth: I tossed a coin.
Then I noticed the pretty girls at the Obama table and the old ladies at the Hillary table and knew I'd chosen well.
GC I am pretty much with Gray Cloud on this one. I don't think we have anyone who is a REAL stand out.

I always thought of Mimi as Scarlette O'hara. A real southern belle.
She seems like such a girly girl.
Shoot, that's why I started calling her Mimosa...

[Actually LG I think I got misunderstood. I meant what you said. That Boomers and GenXers struggle with race in a way that the generation after seems to have much less trouble with. I know what you mean, but I don't see a sign of that struggle on this thread. That 'struggle", rather, is evidenced by a boomer generation who is TOO SCARED to ever discuss RACE because they have been retarded by political correctness. They PRETEND like it does not exist at all and their racism comes out in weak cowardly ways like "I have a black friend..." blah blah blah blah. Take MEDC for example, he does not suffer from a HINT of racism so he has no qualms about bringing up someone's RACE. He is not SCARED of talking about black or white issues because he is not a racist and sees nothing wrong with being black. He does not believe white ppl are superior or vice versa. But most boomers would never ever do that, because they have been browbeaten and brainwashed into believing that ANY MENTION of a persons race is "RACISM." It ain't. And thinking it IS, is a form of racism because it only implies there must be something WRONG with that persons race to make it unmentionable. As far as Obama goes, I like him better than any of the other candidates, but I would never vote for a democrat. I think he is sincere and honest and I respect the man despite our ideological differences.

Who While I agree that we need a change in policy from the GWB administration, I emphatically disagree with the direction Hillary and Obama want to take us. While I may agree with a few of the things they say, its completely overshadowed by their desire to force universal healthcare on us. Universal healthcare and expansion of the welfare state can not be decoupled from higher taxes. The money has to come from somewhere, so it comes from the people who work and make money. The people who work to better themselves and acquire a certain standard of living are forced to subsidize the surival of the people at the bottom, who either cannot or won't help themselves. Thats called socialism and I will never support a system that requires you to be unambitious in order to be "happy". Unfortunately, the Republicans are not fielding any good mainstream candidates either. Now that McCain has the ticket basically locked down, a vote for him is basically a vote for the status quo, which most people seem to be pretty upset with. Ron Paul has my vote, but unfortunately, he has been ostracized by basically every media outlet. Great message, but not necessarily a great representative of it. In the meantime, even though I don't like McCain, I'm pulling for him because I see the democratic alternative as a violent departure from what I want this country to be.

I find it interesting reading all your political opinions. I live in South Africa and I can tell you the majority here don't like Bush and think he is "not the sharpest tool in the shed" America was always admired and envied for all it had to offer its people but now some people see the U.S.A as a greedy country that uses its power to bully other countries.I personally think that Iraq was invaded for its oil and 9/11 was a good excuse!! Don't get me wrong..I watched the towers on tv here and I was devastated and shocked. Why doesn't Bush invade Zimbabwe to help the poor oppressed people there??cos it has nothing U.S.A wants or needs...
America hasn't been attacked or invaded for decades and I think the people must have felt vulnerable and fearful seeing that you are such a powerful country..understandable..
S.A has had its fair share of conflict and strife and one becomes hardened against violence..if a cop is killed here its not a big deal..whereas in U.K its a huge outcry as it should be..we learn to live with safety and security being second nature..thats why tourists in our country are such easy targets..I cringe when I think of the Soccer 2010...and the crime then!!!please be careful if you traveling here just be vigilent...I love my country and will never leave... I do think we as a nation have shown the world that different cultures and races can live together without a war..MANDELA is an awesome man..I've been in his presence and its humbling..he has been our lighthouse!!!! In case your'e wondering I am a white middle class female!! hope I haven't offended anyone just my opinion no harm intended..

While I may agree with a few of the things they say, its completely overshadowed by their desire to force universal healthcare on us. Universal healthcare and expansion of the welfare state can not be decoupled from higher taxes. This is how "universal healthcare" is currently working in Massachusetts. A law was passed that EVERYONE who doesn't have insurance HAS to buy it. PERIOD. If you do no get insurance through your place of employment and cannot prove that you are covered by spouse, parent, private policy, etc. a certain amount is taken out of your paycheck as an additional tax deduction. When you file your income tax return, the amount you paid or didn't pay will be adjusted. Your insurance-rate is on a scale with your income. In other words, if you can afford to buy insurance for your family and you are not, then the government is going to take that money from you anyway. If your income is low--you are already burdening the system anyway--you probably are already getting food stamps and free health insurance anyway. This plan ends up costing less, not more than what is already in place--where the uninsured get sick and go to the emergency room and the high costs are passed along to average insurance consumer because there are a whole bunch of Americans out there who can afford expensive vacation and large screen TVs but not insurance. In Massachusetts we have had this system in place for children for many years--all they did was add the adults. Before a poor single parent trying to support kids on a limited income could get free or practically free insurance for her kids. Now she can get it for herself too. Romney said he cut taxes in Massachusetts. Technically he did. He had his eye on the White house and he wanted to say he cut taxes and created a working universal healthcare. He also got rid of the debt. HOW? USER FEES. We used to call our state TAXACHUSETTS...Now we call it the USER FEE STATE. Actually, it's not a bad idea. This could work on a national level. These multinational corporations who avoid paying taxes --lets USER FEE them. For example, let's charge Mobil Exxon for every sign they erect in the US--for every sign on every highway, on every gas pump--the bigger the sign the bigger the fee.

Andrew,
I'm not in favor of a national health care system, either. Mainly because it hasn't worked so well in Canada, however I am in favor of cutting Gov spending to offset programs where all people have a chance to live the life our Constitution promises us...mainly the affordable necessities of life.
Perhaps, regulating Big Pharm and the medical insurance companies.
I don't know. I am so ignorant of politics in general, but I do know health care has become such a high cost that people who are not wealthy are seriously hurt by that cost.
As a single mom who made more money than most people in my area, I struggled to make ends meet, and it wasn't about can't or won't, it was about it cost more than I had coming in,simply to live.
It it so saddening to go to the grocery store and see old people try to choose between the woefully few items in their carts. It is so saddening to see old people who must choose between prescription drugs and food.
Something has to be done, medical costs are just too high.
Heck, my SIL who has been battling ovarian cancer for 10 years now...my brother has been bandrupted once, and he makes well over $150 K. They have maxed out two million dollar insurance policies all ready.
Just one of the pills she needed to take a day, that his insurance company wouldn't pay for, cost $100/per pill. This was a pill that helped her to not get so sick over the treatments. If she didn't get it, my bro had to stay home from work to sit with her and help her, she would get that sick.
And even though I have a good job, I have to pay a substantial amount to offset what my company pays for my insurance...and then the co-pays and deductibles are outrageous.
