Can anyone direct me to any charities involving the USMC that are both worthwhile and real? I don't want to donate to somewhere that uses 70% of its funding to get more funding, and I want to make sure my donation actually gets to the people who need the help.

Background...we had a house in North Carolina that we couldn't sell when we moved to SC four years ago. It was on the market (in a 'hot' market) for 15 months. Finally we gave up and put tenants in it for 2 years. They promised they'd buy it, and didn't, so we kicked them out and put it on the market again. Our agent had a friend who was is a general contractor and retired marine. He did great work for a great price, and I told him that when the house sold I'd make a donation to a charity on his behalf.

We closed the house on Wednesday! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> So now I get to make good on my promise.

I've done a couple of Mud Runs that benefitted the children of marines that were KIA in Afghanistan. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Three that come to mind are:

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
Wounded Warrior Project
USO

I will keep thinking.
