Click here for shocking story Italy's highest appeal court has ruled that married Italian women who commit adultery are entitled to lie about it to protect their honour.
The court gave its landmark ruling after hearing the case of a 48-year-old woman, convicted of giving false testimony to police by denying she had lent her mobile phone to her lover.
The appeal court did not agree that she had broken the law.
It said bending the truth was justified to conceal extra-marital relationships. I am absolutely sickened by this ruling. The very first legal dispensation to lie in a western democracy in law is for waywards. Just maybe NOT HAVING AN AFFAIR is the best way to uphold "honour" ? Too bad... I liked Italy when I was there ...
That kind of surprises me too... I would think with Italy being predominently Catholic that it would be conservative...
But then again... they also produced Musolini...

She had lent her telephone to her secret lover, Giovanni, who then used it to call Carla's estranged husband, Vincenzo, and insult him.
Giovanni, the lover, was convicted of abusive behaviour in a local court, and Carla convicted as an accessory. I am surprised that this made it to Italy's "highest" appeal court in the first place. Giving false testimony to police must be equivalent to perjury. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> Hopefully they can make the 'accessory to abusive behavior' charge stick. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

How many times have courts allowed women to file false molestation charges in custody cases against their STBXH and not punishing them for it afterwards?
Before condemning Italy or other countries, why don't we look at our own part of the world first?
