Howdy Mimi, thanks for inviting me to drop in. Greetings from Omaha NE, currently. I got my license about 10 1/2 years ago, and have driven off and on ever since. Working as hard as I am right now, I have a few handicaps in the polished goddess department, but of course I maintain my appearance to the best of my abilities, even if on some days it's wipeys and pouring water over my toothbrush, instead of glorious hot showers. Apparently I am meeting some important emotional needs, for all that, since at regular intervals my co-driver begs me to find a suitable off-ramp to park on for a bit. I did the domestic Goddess thing yesterday, too. Vacuuming up a storm, EVERYTHING. Dusting, wiping, spraying, washing. I started in my bedroom and worked my way thru the entire bottom floor. I need to wash the curtains and the sofa, chair cushion covers, still, but it's otherwise lovely.
I really need to get outside and mow, and weed, but the rain is not cooperating.
I'm back to cooking for one, but it's less expensive than ordering in, and less fattening, so I'm going to have to take food to work to feed those hungry masses there, and get them to critique the recipes. My work peops are like wolves waiting for the feast. You could prolly put down chocolate covered poo and they'd at least give it a second glance. OMG SL i thought i would spit out my drink on the chocolate covered poo line. The people at my work are EXACTLY the same. Our slogan is if you feed them they will come.

Over the years, I have spent several years working with unemployment insurance claims. Before that, I worked with women who were unemployed and receiving AFDC/TANF/public assistance/whatever you wish to call it. I have recruited employees. I have evaluated employment applications. All these different levels of employment.
Sometimes, it gives me chills to think of the stories these other people could tell.
When we are focused on our lives, it is easy to forget that the teller at the bank has a real life. That truck that just cut you off (sorry, Neak - maybe it was a privately-owned pick-up truck) is driven by a person who has her/his own story to tell. Doctor's die of cancer, too.
Sometimes, that realization brings out my best - and sometimes (like Saturday, when I screamed at 12 ATT employees over 3 hours trying to get my account straightened out) I simply can't remember that I am dealing with real people with their own joys and pain.
There is so much.....so much of so many things....all around us - if only we stop and notice.

Today I was scooting along to go get the lawnmower so I could mow and I spotted an albino Indian paintbrush alongside the road. You can bet I went back to investigate! Took pictures, too! I have never seen one in my life...I would have remembered that!! It was so COOL!!!!!!

Once nowXH and I were driving through a national park. I saw a flower as we were passing by. I remembered the area and, on our drive back, asked him to pull over so I could take a picture of it. When I read up on it, later, I read that it was a fairly wild wildflower and I felt so blessed to have seen that Painted Trillium.
Life is right before your eyes, ladies!!!!

I took bellydancing classes for about a year a while back, after I had my son. It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot about hip movement and expression with the arms, and my legs got much stronger. It's a very sensual dance, too. I'll find myself moving my hips when the right song hits me. I don't even realize I'm doing it until the music begins to sweep me away.
Exposing my belly to the world after I had my son was an experience all it's own. There were many different body shapes and sizes and I soon felt right at home, and did build confidence over time. It was, all around, a great experience.
I took dance when i was in high school; modern, jazz, tap, ballet. It was a lot of fun, and great exercise.

I have said this before, but your grandmother is or was a wise woman.

Hi Cinderella,
Your post regarding the Painted Trillium reminded me of this poem....
1928 West-Running Brook A Passing Glimpse by Robert Frost
I often see flowers from a passing car That are gone before I can tell what they are.
I want to get out of the train and go back To see what they were beside the track.
I name all the flowers I am sure they weren't; Not fireweed loving where woods have burnt--
Not bluebells gracing a tunnel mouth-- Not lupine living on sand and drouth.
Was something brushed across my mind That no one on earth will ever find?
Heaven gives it glimpses only to those Not in position to look too close.

Mimi--Neak said to say she was in the middle of a post when they lost their wireless access, and she hasn't been able to get back online. She threatened, I mean promised, to be back soon.

I guess that might explain why they disappeared for a few minutes the night they had dinner at my house!
