Neak, just thought you'd like to know that a swarm of bees is apparently trying to bulld a hive in the flowers right next to your garden. I've got the Dervish watering the plants. The rest of us are safely in the house with the door closed. Haven't heard any screams yet. grin

And your hand MIGHT have smelled like cow poop, you know. Being in the barn frizzles your nose hairs for awhile. I love barn smell--always have every since I was a little girl--but after you've been in it for awhile your nose loses a certain amount of its sensitivity, at least temporarily.

One of the last times I was at the farm I spent several hours in the barn visiting during milking, just before I got into my nice rental and headed off for Chicago and the flight home. I no longer noticed barn smell until I got into my nice, spiffy little rental car and closed the door. I decided to stop at the town 25 miles away where I was born and check out the hospital, even though the building itself is now a nursing home and there is a new hospital that houses the birthing unit. I got out of the car, enjoyed barn smell all the way up in the elevator and entered the labor and delivery area. The nurse asked how she could help me, and I replied, "I'm a labor and delivery nurse from California and I was born at this hospital. I just wanted to see your department." At that, her nostrils dilated ever so slightly (about 1-2cm, if I were making an EDUCATED guess) and she sniffed delicately at the aroma of pure Wisconsin farm that emanated from me like a thick cloud. I knew what she was thinking, "So THAT'S what L&D smells like in California!"

Have a good time for all of us. The only time I'm ever going to come close to "European" is if someone tells me I'm wetting my pants. blush

At my age, that's not as far-fetched a fantasy as you might think!

Life's not fair....I can't even get one day off from work without feeling like they're going to hate me for it and hold it against me. I only have 6 weeks of vacation time(or more) and 3 weeks of sick time. So, I don't think they give a turkey's patootee.

All these people talking about vacation are making me green w/ envy. Green skin is NOT goddessy.

Hey, I work one of those real jobs, too. The difference is, I always put myself first, and always take time off when I can afford to. I'll take mental health days ahead of time. WE (me and then notsowaywardhusband) would take a vacation every year for a week, even if we weren't out of town the entire week. I take every Christmas week off.

You've got to prioritize YOU into the mix of your own life. This year, I'm not planning on going very far from home, but I still plan on taking some time off of work.

And I'm certainly not criticizing those of you who work REAL JOBS...

It hasn't worked for ME...

And now I'm TOO OLD to fit this SQUARE into a ROUND HOLE...

Oh, Mimi, I know you are criticizing. I was pointing out to ciderella that you have to make time for yourself when you aren't self employed. It's a must.

When you are self employed, you still have to make time, but you SCHEDULE it, instead of REQUEST it.

I never feel guilty, EVER, when taking time off. I hear people complain all the time about not being ABLE to take time off, 'cause the boss will be angry. If you set the precedent that you will sacrifice your mental health for your job, they'll, generally, take it.

The real world for me is that I am a single mom of two teenagers. I knew that I would not have the business skill to run a business. I knew that it was too dicey for me to think about trying to feed, clothe, house, and educate two children while owning a business. That was not a good or healthy choice for me.

Not that the regime where I am now working is creating a healthy atmosphere.

But, if I wanted to have a home, insurance, food, and clothes, I had to make the choice to be employed.

Seriously considered self-employment but it was just not a rational choice.

I am not complaining that you are getting the vacation. Nope, never, not me.....I'm just jealous and tired and weary.
