I went to my attorney today and signed papers to get my maiden name back. It's been 18 long years. Seemed so weird signing my name as such. I can't wait until it's legal!! Ronda

Oh, yeah! It was liberating. I did it several years after the divorce because I didn't want my maiden name back. When he married second wife, I picked a name off the family tree and changed it to that.

I knew after the divorce was final that I wanted to take my maiden name back but it wasn't high on my priority list until my ex announced his upcoming nuptials in July to the OW.

My wife wanted her old married name back as part of our divorce agreement.
I refused to agree to it as so it would cost her a second court cost.
Kinda a sore subject with me. Kinda like her erasing me to aleviate the disaster she caused.

Pariah, can a STBXH contest a STBXW's choice to change her name or not?
FWIW, I never changed my name after my first divorce until I got remarried. I've built a good career with a solid international reputation with WSTBX's name so I probably won't change it now either. I'm not sure what I'll do if I ever did get married again since I'm sure that guy won't want me to keep a previous H's name. Then again, I'll be rotting in my grave long before I ever consider marriage again so it's not likely to be an issue. What I do take issue with is that the *&#@!! bank keeps wanting to print Mrs. Tabby WSTBXH and I would prefer it just say Tabby WSTBXH, without the "Mrs.". The only way I can get that is if I go to my branch in person and get them to do it right there. Major PIA - and I need to order checks right now!!!

I don't care if my XW changes her name back. I might actually prefer it. Give me back something of what's mine. I don't feel like she deserves to have it anymore.
But if she does, I hope she waits a few years until the kids are older. I guess I'm still old fashioned enough to be uncomfortable with my kids not having the same name as their mother.

I didn't change mine back as I wanted YD and I to have same last name til she was done at school.
So when she was coming up to the HS I asked if she wanted me to change name so she wouldn't be associated with me as I am the ISS lady. She said "Nah if my friends get in trouble and have to spend time with you I'll ask them what they did to get to spend time with you!" At School I go by Miss Dawn anyways, most kids don't know my last name.
One day a kid asked my daughter how she was related to Miss Dawn and my daughter replied she's my mom, the kids nah, you don't have the same last name and daughter says yes we do it's dada dada, no the kids said hers is Dawn!!!!
She graduates in 09 so will do it then I guess, I won't be changing it if I re-marry though. It's mine and I am going to keep it this time!!!

I understand what you are saying Pariah but on the other side of the fence I don't want to be associated with the disaster that he and the OW created and it only cost me $56.50 for my attorney's fee and filing fee combined. Ronda

I kept my married name because of the kids. I do not want to have a different last name than them. I do not really care for my married name, maybe after they are grown, I may change it. If I were to get married again, I do not think that I would change my name. But, since that is not in the near future, I will jump that hurdle when I come to it! But Pariah, you are also prolonging your agony of the inevitable, so why not just get it over with, so you can heal and move on?

See, he can't get it over with because then he is into being so hurt and wronged that he can't let it go. It's his issues. Having to have control in some way because of his anger. JMHO

That's awesome! I can understand the happiness in having your maiden name back.
I have it written in my divorce that I can take mine back if I so choose, and I'd love to - but I'm just too darn LAZY to go through all of that work...........I've had this name since 1992, so what a pain it would be to change everything...
Congratulations to you!! I'm jealous.....

Thanks Laura!! I understand what you mean. It's been 18 long years for me.
The easy part was paying the $56.60 to have my attorney take it to the judge...the hard part...well...time consuming part is changing it with social security, drivers license, registration, utility bills...etc. But I'm more than willing to do it!!

JMHO Thanks for the DJ, if you wanna match wits with me go right ahead, I'm sure I can fire a coupla zingers across your bow too, but I aim for the mast. Yep, my anger, my way of dealing with the injustice of losing everything and the betrayers getting off without a scratch. If she wants her old name back, then I ain't paying for that too. She can do that seperate from the divorce. It was a matter of principal. I absolutely will never budge again from my principals or boundries, even if it means disaterous results. At least they will be MY disasterous results and I will own them. *edited for clarification*

GOSH! How can one little task be such a slow process!!
They say getting married is easier/cheaper than getting divorced......well I'm here to tell you.....it's easier/cheaper to change your name when you get married than it is to change it when you get divorced!!
I have the official order from the Judge....Can't change it at Social Security until I have something that shows I've been using the name....(how queer is that?!?!?) So they tell me I have to change my driver's license and registration first. I also need the official divorce decree....which HE filed so HE has it. HE can't find it!! So I had to go to the courthouse today and get my own copy for $6.50. LOL So here I sit waiting to get my updated license and registration from PennDOT....
I can't wait until HE goes to get HIS marriage license and is told HE needs HIS official decree of the divorce and HE STILL CAN'T FIND IT!!!! LOL

If anyone thinks for 2 seconds that I'm gonna warn HIM......hahahaha no chance in h*ll!!! I made it sound today like his copy was the only copy in the world and I desperately needed it!! Little did he know that I knew full well all I had to do was pay a little money to get my own copy...I just was trying to avoid the added step and cost. I'm sure when they go to the courthouse to get their license and he doesn't have his original divorce decree...they will point him in the direction of the prothonotary office.
