I doubt it. As was stated above, if abortion is banned, the Republicans lose much of their ammunition. It simply is not in thier best interest to ban it. Besides, if they really wanted to...if they were really that concerned about the unborn...they could've done it already. Not that banning abortion will save many babies, anyway. I think it's ironic that you have to jump through all sorts of hoops to prove yourself worthy of adopting a child, but any sack of crap that gets knocked up can have a child. Just a bit off-topic. I happen to agree with you and Mr.W (via Mrs.W). We talk around here a lot about actions vs. words ... now view the Republicans through that same lens ... exactly how many of their words translate into actions when it comes to social issues? They have simply found a patsy in the Religious Right, who are accustomed to writing checks to support their beliefs. The Republicans use their money and their votes, but don't deliver on their "words" with any meaningful "actions", because as Krazy pointed out, if they ever delivered on any of these social issues, then the Religious Right would abandon them with their CHECKBOOKS.

Krazy, I think you (and Mr W) are dead wrong. In fact, I am not a Republican...so, nobody is fooling me. It is the cry of the democrats to make others think that there is nothing that can be done about abortion. One more nomination from Bush or McCain and that decision will be overturned. I look at the facts...not spin....I leave spin to the abortion industry and their supporters (ie...anybody that votes for a pro choice candidate).

Gore never said "I invented the internet".
He did say something about being an integral part of legislation that started the internet.
He never said he invented it. That was a complete fabrication by the Republican Party that the media ran with. Never happened.

Bush has been in office for nearly 8 years, with a Republican-controlled Congress for much of that time. Why was nothing done? It's a moot point, anyway, because Bush has already ruined McCain's, or any other Republican's chances of getting elected anytime soon.

But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system. Gore's exact quote from his interview with Wolf Blitzer.

Which is why the major news media (hark, spit) keeps talking about the Supreme Court appointments the next President will get to make. Care to speculate what kinda judge Obama will appoint? How about Clinton or how about McCain? One or two more conservative Supremes and we will likely go back to coat hangers in a dark alley. Yikes, did I say that? And I hate abortions will every fibre of my being, not the least of which is caused by the simple fact I wouldn't be here if such was legal when I was born. Larry

Why? Is that a serious question? Well, for starters because the control of Congress was not complete enough...and, because no other liberal justices died or retired (but, here's hoping!).

I say let's put abortion to a nationwide vote, then a re-vote every 10 years.
Late-term and partial-birth abortions should always be illegal, unless the health of the mother is at stake, and abortions due to a rape should always be legal.
I say let's put the abortion issue on a ballot.

Im sure there are plenty of republican strategists who do not necessarily want to lose the issue by banning abortion. But the fact is Roberts and Alito will vote against Roe vs Wade at first opportunity. One more like them and it will be overturned.

Good quote MEDC. I stand partially corrected. He was PART of the process of legislation that turned UseNet into the Internet and of course, he didn't invent it, he just took more of the credit than he deserved. To sell the American public, I guess a politician has to be all about "I did this and I did that," and what we need is "We are going to solve this thing for the benefit of people now and in the future."
Thank you for the correction.

I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system. Gore's exact quote from his interview with Wolf Blitzer. Right. In other words, he never said he invented it. "I took the initiative in creating the Internet." Read it again. Then again. That statement means he had a crucial role in writing legislation that made the internet possible. He didn't invent the modem, routers, or any of that stuff. The politician that proposed legislation to make Yellowstone a national park could sensibly make the claim that he "created Yellowstone National Park". Does that mean he "invented" it? No, chances are he DID NOT physically create the mountains, trees, and geysers that make up the park, but in getting the right legislation passed, he can claim it as his creation. Rightly so. But then again, you already knew that. You're just being obstinate.

But then again, you already knew that. You're just being obstinate. I NEVER credited him with anything other than his words..which I posted. I do think his words have been mischaracterized. What was wrong with me posting his exact words...since they were in question.

Hey, can't it veer off topic if it's my topic, and I'm taking part in the veering?
