My W placed an announcement in our local newspaper. I can't quote it verbatim, but it included our first names and was very mushy. It was a great idea for a gift, especially considering that in a county with over 500,000 people in it, there were only 2 other dads that received the same gift.

It was terrific.

Well i am NOT a dad, but the kids got my H a gift card to his favorite store (so he could get what he wanted).

Our son had a baseball game in the middle of the afternoon (what better for a dad huh?) that we attended (dad is the assistant coach).

I made him breakfast and dinner (lunch was a hot dog at the ball diamond)and i mowed the lawn for him.

How's that for a GREAT Father's Day!!!

not2fun

ps....My WS got some new BBQ tools that he needed, some new sauces and some of his favorites that he was running low on, a card, and donuts in bed (from the kiddies). He cooked dinner (I offered days earlier, but he likes to do this.....), I helped and cleaned up. Then I gave him 2 of his favorite candy bars (Godvida) and a sweet card (nothing mushy...not quite ready for that....) and a 25min. body massage.....all in all it was a great day......

Hmm... let's see...

What I got:
Chocolate cake, cupcakes, other home-cooked treats, and great day out with FWW and the kids, where we really enjoyed ourselves.

What I didn't get:
Fulfillment of her promise to me to complete an order of "relationship-building" books by Saturday night.

So, all in all I feel happy, yet somehow manipulated, because if I make a point about the broken promise, her response is going to be that she didn't have time because she was doing all of the cooking, etc...

I'd have preferred if she kept her promise, but I think this is a battle that I'm going to choose to avoid.

Saturday night we got a sitter and went to 'High Cotton', a really nice restaurant downtown. I was craving a good steak and they didn't disappoint - best steak I've had outside of Texas. After dinner we went for a walk on the pier. I won't say what we did when we got home, other than to say it was...memorable! blush

Sunday morning I slept in while DW handled the kids, and later made breakfast in bed for me. That's kind of a tradition for us; I let her sleep in and do breakfast in bed for her on Mother's Day and her birthday, and she does it for me on Father's Day and my birthday. She made me a tyrolean omelet and a pot of coffee.

I played trains with DS4 for a while, then she gathered up the kids and went shopping so I had the house to myself for a few hours. I took down the tape from a painting project in the garage but some of the paint tore away with the tape mad Then I did paperwork, paid bills, and messed with Quicken until the wife and kids came home.

I played more trains with DS4 and did my best to keep DS0 out of the dog's water bowl. We had a nice dinner - some pork dumplings the wife picked up at Costco. I got DS4 to bed on time but DS0 held out until 930 or so. Helped DW with some pictures of the boys to send to her dad.

The only down side was when I called my dad to say happy father's day...he wasn't quite sure what I was talking about but was happy to hear from me nonetheless. The vascular dementia is getting worse... frown

We got my H the last two seasons of Stargate SG-1 on DVD, cos we missed them, a $100 brunch at this place we've been wanting to go to, help with the yardwork, and sitting on the couch watching tv for 12 hours (his idea of heaven, my idea of torture).

My wife came to church with me and the kids for the first time in months. She gave me a framed picture of all of us that was taken at a family gathering last week.

The symbolism was not lost on me. She is back, we are a family again. A great gift.

Pretty interesting Father's Day for me.

DD is still 'making' my present and expects to have it for me tonight. I have no idea what it is but we had a pretty busy weekend so she wasn't able to work on it she said.

DS gave me a bag when I picked him up at daycare on Friday. He made me promise not to open it until Sunday, so after Mass we came home and opened it. He painted a fairly large stone and pasted some shaped bits of foam on it, wrote 'Dad Rocks!' on it.... which is pretty cool seeing how I'm a musician as well wink

Love my kids to bits!

I had a truly amazing Father's Day weekend with my children, although through all of the happiness, there were several moments of sadness due to some anniversaries and triggers from prior Father's Days...last year's Father's Day was the last totally happy family day that included my STBXW, and three years ago, my STBXW left the day after Father's Day to go out of town, and there she started having an A.

I was able to stay 'present' all weekend and enjoy the time with my children, except for portions of the ride home, and sitting alone last night after putting the kids to bed.

The two greatest things I got for Father's Day were that I was able to be with DS9 when he caught his first-ever trout (a wild rainbow trout with a bright red stripe), which also happened to be the first trout of the day for everyone...so I got to watch to watch DS9 giggle and dance around like the BMOC because he won the 'first-fish' honors. The other great thing that I got was a poem from DD12, written from her heart and describing what I mean to her.

My Father's Day was also punctuated by another thing that I got, and also what I didn't get. What I got was yelled at by STBW when I got home last night because I didn't have the kids call her on Saturday or Sunday, and because she didn't want to call the kids on my cell phone due to the fact that she didn't want to talk to me. What I didn't get was a Happy Father's Day wish from STBXW, or any type of communication from DS20 who is STBXW's son from a previous relationship that I adopted and raised since he was 4yo.

Overall, it was a great Father's Day!

My boys (22 and 20) insisted we go for our second "student jump".

We went skydiving about two months ago for the first time...for Father's day we went on our second jump.

3500 foot static line out of a small Cessna.

It was great. My boys did awesome, all of us landed safe and sound on the field, and we had a BLAST!

I'm also waiting on the paintball shop to open tomorrow to get the rest of my gift from them...a really kick butt new paintball marker!

My wife bought one of those musical cards that the boys and her all signed. It played the "Indiana Jones" theme song and said something along the lines of "To a dad who can do anything"...and inside it said "You even do your own stunts!".

One of my youngest put in there "You're a mad, crazy, paintball playing, skydiving freak! I LOVE YOU!!!".

A very, very good report card from DS! He kept it a secret for Father's Day.

Nothing from FWW. Late in the day she said she completely forgot it was Father's Day. Not unusual. She has remembered Father's Day maybe a half dozen times max since DS was born. (She usually says I am not her father.)

Very cool, Owl. DS and I do a lot of paintball. He wants an automatic for his next BDay. I’m not so sure I can stand the certain pain.

Best BDday DS remembers is a game I put together with many of his school friends and their dads. It was kids against dads for four hours. We gave each dad a tee shirt with a full color target on the front to wear. Kids loved it.

well let's see sat w took me out to dinner and we ran errands. then slept in sun morn where w met on eof my big EN's (very nice) before taking me to a guaint little breakfast get away.

hug out at the house where all my older kids managed to come home for a nice bbq.

home made cards from my 2 grandd's. one of the sweetest surprises was when the oc got home from her visit with her bio she gave me the clay change holder (ashtray) she made in kindergarden. it was for her daddy.

the most touching cards was my 16 yo son gave me a home made card with a small poem he wrote. what made it so touching was that he and i have been bumping heads for quite some time and to think he actually took the time for this was moving.

the cu de gra though was watching the sheriff arrest 7 of the 10 kids my 16 yo dd had been hanging with all weekend. dumb kids.

here's the skinny. she went over to hang out sat afternoon and said she would be in by her curfew, 11 pm. she never made it home. so on sunday my w and our oldest dd text her all day with no replys. finally about 8:30 i said ok let's go find her. she usually hangs at 2 girls houses.

so the 1st house we went to i knock on the door. i see someone looking thru the peep hole and then hear thru the door "IT"S YOUR DAD". still no answer at the door. so i knock again and yell that i know dd is in there just open the door so we can take her home.

finally the girl that lives there opens the door a crack and i tell her that i know my d is there just send her and we can all go our own ways. i see there are about 5 boys watching the laker game. teh girl just stares at me like i have said nothing for abour 30 seconds and i repeat my self and say that if you don't send her out i will call the police. door closes and from the upstairs bedroom i hear her screaming at my dd to "get out or they will call the cops."

nothing happens. i walk around to watch the back so she doesn't sneak out and w waits out front. about 10 to 15 minutes and still nothing. so w calls the heat. all the lights in the house go out

car rolls up and cop takes our story and asks us to back away about 50 yrds. officer knocks on the door for about 5 minutes and then starts yelling thru the door to open up he just wants to talk to them.

all the time w is texting dd that the police are coming/here and they will all be in big trouble if she doesn't come out.

still no one comes out. a 2nd car rolls up. more knocking , house still dark , more requests to open the door, more nothing.

the cop calls his sargent and tells me he wanted more authorization before he kicks in the door. more waiting, 2 more cars roll in. they block the garage door and surround the house. a 5th car comes up. still dark house and , no one is coming out.

w is now texting as fast as her fingers can go trying to warn her what is going to happen.

finally they break in the sliding door and enter the house. when they turn on the lights there are 2 boys face down and cuffed on the floor. they start bringing them out 1 at a time. they put 6 18 - 19 yo boys in the cop cars and 4 girls. dd included

they release dd to us and tell me that all the boys are being arrested for impedeing justice and serving alchohol to minors. 3 of the girls were under 18.

so bottom line is 7 kids arrested 3 sent home to parents. sliding door broken. house searched.

i wonder what the mom will think when she comes home? i wonder if my dd will stil have these kids as friends? i wonder if they lerned anything from this experience except that dd's dad was the crazy guy in the cell phone commercial?

oh yeah and why did they not open the door? because one of the boys told them that the police can't come in the house. i mean how stupid do are these kids? have they never seen any of the "cops" shows running night and day on tv on mearly every other channel?

oh where was my brilliant dd at when they found her? hiding in a closet. now that is making me think she is real college material.

just another everyday in the life of pops.

Pops, really sorry to hear about all of that. That's gotta be rough to have to go through all of that.

Aphelion- Yeah, well I'M the one wanting the full auto (Proto SLG) this time! laugh I'm getting a little older and a little slower...I figure it just balances the game out. Hehehe. The game you setup sounds like a blast. I have 3 sons, and when they bring assorted friends along, we normally field 10-15 people.
