He thinks it's better for me if we don't talk. I'm afraid he's just going to shut off the past and continue to be influenced by her and I can't do anything if I don't see or talk to him. We are e-mailing about house stuff. Is there anything I can do with plan A that doesn't involve us seeing or talking to each other?

Admiration is often a top EN for men.
When WH and I were only in email contact, I would send an email everyday with a thank you in it. They ranged from thanking him for mowing the lawns to supporting me when I was studying.
My WH prefered the more practical ones, but you could start with anything and see which get responses.
If you find it hard to find anything to admire/thank him for, look to the past. WH's dont seem to notice the difference.
