I came across this today, a marital satisfaction test from 1939 where you can "score" your mate or yourself based on certain characteristics. Some of the questions are outdated (ie. red fingernails are a demerit), but you can see how they tie into Harley's Emotional needs. http://www.scribd.com/doc/3086410/Tests-for-Husbands-and-Wives-

I don't know - I have a problem with women getting an "allowance". Of course, I've got a career and have always made my own money but even if I was a SAHM, I would have been offended if I had to run the house out of an allowance rather than being able to completely manage the finances. There are also about a dozen demerit categories based on how a woman dresses (seams in hose crooked, must get dressed for breakfast??)! I realize that's the time frame but ick. I'd give a man an extra 25 merits for appreciating me not wearing hose and cooking, cleaning and even going to the store in pj's (yes I have done that ).
